Dear David,

you are right, it’s never the tool, but the knowledge and creativity of the editor.
But in my opinion you miss the whole point – that is not the question here.
Fact is, that Apple released a Product under the name “Pro”, which clearly has several short comings and has less pro-features than even FCP 1.0: No Ex-Monitoring, killing COLOR (a terrific App!), no XML, no OMF, not compatible with previous FCP Versions (but with iMovie!!!!), no Print to tape possibilities, killed STP, killed DVDSP…and a couple of more things.
This is not a Pro-Application, sorry, you can spin it however you want – it is and – unless they change it big Time – will be just an iMovie on Steroids!

Very well thought through post, Lynette.
I’m identify a lot with your point of view, specially about the Look. It is a slap in the face for professional users, to suddenly handle a iMovie interface. Try once to give a professional DOP as a new camera a consumer model with all auto and preset functions- u could not run that fast, before he would hit u with that thing on the head.
There’s no excuse for what Apple did here. It’s what it is- a choice of Business over loyalty. Why are we so surprised? Apple is a multi billion dollar coperation, existing to make profit. Loyalty? They killed Shake. Even Steve Jobs dropped his former partner- who was by th way the tech genius – like a hot potato. And we ar surprised about fcpx. I don’t wanna switch, but might have to. 🙁

No need to say sorry, I was just joking. Because the COW wanted to bann me on e for cursing.
I totally understand you- I was cursing myself and also in shock: 5 days ago my father in law died, and we are sitting Shiv’a and now FCP dies. I’m so mad. I started out on PP and then stepped over to FCP and been faithful ever since. I feel really sad about how apple treats his long term pro customers. Such a slap in the face. And to dare to call this FCP just beats it all: how rude! Do they think we are morons????? It’s like selling a Porsche with a Trabant engine. You think I will not notice? This is such a cheat. It even beats the killing of Shake. No words!
