I think, that should work…if I understood the case right.
If you try, let me know how it went, I am curious!!

MM, I’d first dumb all the Preference files connected to FCP & Compressor.
Then re-render or encode new your Final Footage and try to compress that new encoding.
    It’s still there?

  • It’s not a dumb question. I work on MBP myself and I did encounter the fact that BCC Plugs often need a crazy amount of render time. Are you working with AE? Might be faster there.
Try once to dumb the BCC – does it speed up a lot?

First of all, the speed of your external HD is much more important than the internal.
I would get myself some good external HD with at least FW800 – WD Studio 2TB Mirror Raid – good option.
Yes, 17inch is bigger, but than it’s important what you wanna do with it: You mainly do office work & student stuff – get the 15inch or even 13inch. You wanna do serious film work with it and still be mobile: 17inch. Why are you stuck with 4GB RAM – go to OWC and boost it up for small dollars.
External USB connected HD? Not a good idea – for film work – forget about it.
yes, it might be more than you calculated, but if you wanna make an omlette, you gotta break the egg!

That’s the tricky thing: One would not be enough, since that it does import. I would have to convert several, then try, and then….blablabla.
I go now for the good old straight forward solution, I import one be one 😉

Tried it. Did not help 🙁
it is also not really connected to FCP, but to the footage.
It just does it with this specific GoPro footage, which I converted in AE.

  • I am on this one with Raphael: Wait a little. Those are all great Plug Ins – specially Sapphire, nattress, Red Giant Stuff!
But let’s see, what the whole FCP X development will bring.
Right now I would be very careful in investing in this platform.
It’s like you found your girl friend cheating – and you right away offer her marriage and moving together.
Be cautious right now, that’s all i’m saying.

Same here: Get a 17inch – much better for editing and specially for CC. A 17inch, NOT glossy!!!! display, HD.
Video memory should be good, and go for the new 4core, push up some RAM, but don’t buy it from Apple, but from OWC (on the net) – very cheap, amazing Apple stuff and very reliable.
If you can go for 7200rpm hard drive, SD Drive just if you really use it under extreme circumstances – editing in a safari cheap in africa. kidding. it’s a great disc, but you might wanna invest those extra bugs in something else.

Sometimes, when I just import one file at a time, it works. With two already it crashes.
I have to import now 67 files one by one?

Very sad. And even though I was a defender, fan and suppporter of Apple for many years (and an owner of an iPhone): YOU ARE ABSOLUTELY RIGHT!
I wish I could contradict, but that’s all there is to say. Amen.
