Downsizing your source material already now is not so good.
Just create Proxy Files from all your Footage with the Media Manager.
Then disconnect – make your footage offline & reconnect with the proxies.
After you finished the editing. Re-Connect with your master files in HQ.

Jerry is right, you lose a lot of resolution.
Just had to make a SD DVD of a HD Project.
But there is ways to make it less bad: Export the project in HD Quality from FCP, then put it into AE resizing it there to SD, before putting it into encoding for compressor. If you do not have AE, then do it in compressor, but make sure resizing filter is switched on and set to best (will render ages though).
In general, it still sounds like you have a Field issue.
In that case, if you want to have it in Progressive, you have to throw a de-Interlacing Filter on you material.
Best would be Frames Plus from RedGiant.

Michael is right, the basic keyer of FCP is worthless.
If you have AE, then Keylight is the way to go. Or Get Primatte Keyer from RedGiant (also available for FCP).
It does an excellent job also within FCP.

Yes, do you have any extra 3rd Party Plug Ins for FCP – some of them are really great, better than the FCP build in ones.
In any case, go in the Generator Tab in your viewer and find it under “Render”.

Hi GUys,

for future encounters with that issue:

My test shows, that the first AE downscaling to SD and then encoding with compressor wins a tight race over the direct in compressor encoding.
The difference is minimal, but there is less Moire issues and less problems with thin lines and stuff like this.
Overall a bit cleaner. Taking a little longer, but not much at all.

out of curiosity, when you do CBR, what is the max Average Bitrate you choose?
I know, that some cheaper DVD Players cannot handle too much. I try never to go over 7,5 MBs.
Is that a reasonable value?

I usually never use VBR, but CBR.

I do now 2 tests: One with Compressor and one resizing in AE and then encoding in compressor.

Will let you know, what version comes out better.

That should be easy to figure out, no?
I just through a de-interlace plug in onto the clip and if that was the problem, I’d should see a difference.
Will try that and update here about result.
