Same here from Israel.
I used 7 for many years and I still do for big projects.
I started to get into X recently and used it already on 2 projects.
And yes it’s fast, crazy fast, specially when you through mixed frame rates at it and you need quick results, that look flashy. But in terms of working with other departments- sound, AE and so on – its not there yet. And it misses many features, that a the corner stone of a pro app. So yes, FCP7 is still very relevant to me.
But I agree with some comments here, soon it’ll die due to new cameras and codecs.
I just edited a film, that was shot on Canon C300 and in Mac OS 10.8.4 there is no more working plug in for the L&T Tool to ingest. So I had to ingest on my MBP which is still running on 10.6.8. – tiring work around, which made me understand, that as much as I still love 7, the world keeps spinning and since Apple EOLed the App, it will be less and less compatible with the outside world. A very stupid decision by Apple in my opinion. They should have had both Apps parallel. But seeing the new iOS 7, I understand Apple is on it’s way down. Jobs is dead and seeing that every time He left Apple in the past, it was the moments Apple went downhill. I’m afraid I happens again, and yes, I think then I switch to PPro, since I also work with AE.

Thank you Julian, you summed it up for me.
Since I am new in FCPX forum/ app, I did not wanna say something,
But I do get the feeling, Bill, that you are a bit fanatic in defending X.
It is great software, with great new innovations and very speedy, but after all it still has a lot of child sicknesses and does lack in my opinion a lot of features, that a Pro App needs and separates it from an iMovie amateur software.
A favourites folder is indeed not clinging onto the past, but an essential pro tool that should be implemented.
Because it’s a shame, that all the speed I gain by X’s architecture, I loose, cause I have to fiddle around with chunky work arounds to make up for missing features and functions.
Let’s hope, that a lot of those things will be fixed in the next upgrade.

Hi Mark,

Yup seems I kicked off some domino effect again with this post 😉
I understand Bill’s way to do it and I agree – DataBase is strong,
But nevertheless, I really like the idea of favourite folders, cause I do believe, that they are faster than Jumping TLs back and forth and copy pasting.
The 7 way of dragging and dropping is absolutely quicker.
And yes, that is a bit of iMovie style, the way they solved this. Hope there’s will be one improvement in the future.

That’s really a bummer. It slows down a lot. Pity, because in so many things FCPX is faster,
but that is definitely a break on the speed wheel.
Hope they will fix it.

I totally agree, but for now it’s an ok work around.
Still hope, that all those things still will be fixed in future version.

But you mentioned you got a bad shoulder from the mouse, so you use more short cuts now.

I hope, I describe it the right way, out of my head. I don’t have the app in front of me right now:
When you drop the transition in the TL on the edit points, if you drag on either right or left side, you lengthen or shorten the transition. If you grab either end of the transition in the upper grey part, you do a Ripple edit of the transition to either side, and when you grab and move the symbol in the upper middle of the Transition, you do a roll edit. With those function you can do exactly what I was looking for.
