Bryan, you don’t need to transcode anything. Shoot, drag your files into Premiere and edit – that’s the best workflow.
In the 10 years that I’ve been in this business, I have yet to see one single example of where an intermediary codec (Cineform, Prores or DNxHD) has any impact on the quality of the footage.
Computers today are more than capable of handling interframe codecs like AVCHD and H.264 in real time, and more. You don’t need the high data rates of intraframe codecs.

‘Lots of footage’ can mean different things to different people. Take a look at Amazon services. You can host videos on Vimeo privately, and on the other end you could look at a service like Backblaze.

Is it a striped raid or parity raid or both? Image sequences are the easiest to playback, in my experience. You do realize that a 4k uncompressed TIFF sequence has a data rate that will bring any raid to its knees?
Calculate your data rate, and compare that with the actual sequential speed of your array.

Try to get a lens with f/2.8 through the entire zoom range. A really good option is the Tamron 17-50 f/2.8 non-VC.
