image sequences.
Posted by Christopher Tegg on December 19, 2012 at 7:39 pmHi folks. Quick question.
I have image sequences both jpg, and tiff, relatively large 4256×2832 in my premiere pro cs6
I have 32gb of ram, mercury engine gpu acceleration and these wont play properly.
They are time lapses and I was wondering if you have any suggestions as to how to get them to play properly, other than creating 1080 quicktimes.Cheers
Chris

December 19, 2012 at 7:57 pmHi Chris,
Image sequences are not known for playing back smoothly, even at a video frame size. Your images are HUGE! Two options:
1 – Batch-convert the stills down to a video-friendly size to match your project, such as 1920×1080, before Importing.
2 – RENDER the timeline for smooth playback. Even at the 1920×1080, the sequence may not play back smooth, just the nature of things, but will be easier with the smaller files
Thanks

What kind of disk are these located on?
Image sequences require very speedy drives, with very high transfer speeds and very low seek times, because they are asking for dozens of large files every second.

December 19, 2012 at 9:17 pmI’m reading off a thunder bolt drive.
I converted raw to tiff, and have jpeg image sequences as well.

A single spindle (one drive), or a RAID set?

December 30, 2012 at 3:03 amIs it a striped raid or parity raid or both? Image sequences are the easiest to playback, in my experience. You do realize that a 4k uncompressed TIFF sequence has a data rate that will bring any raid to its knees?
Calculate your data rate, and compare that with the actual sequential speed of your array.
