June 16, 2010 at 3:41 pm in reply to: installing Mac OSx on G4 laptop with broken CD drive

thanks but that did not work at all, computer that is not hard drive setup just says to keep restarting but never installs. I tried to clone Mac os x onto a hardrive following these directions
    https://lowendmac.com/ed/royal/08sr/clone-mac-os-x.html
    but also did not work.
    Here is my current situation
I have a Mac Powerbook G4 (2004 i think). The hard drive crashed, and i got a guy to replace it with a 320g drive (i understand it may not be able to use it all). He was unable to intstall mac os x on the computer, partially because my cd drive also does not work. i followed your instructions on
    https://lowendmac.com/ed/royal/08sr/clone-mac-os-x.html
and used a macbook pro to load super duper and then format and install on my g4 using it as a drive(pressing T as it starts up) After doing this my computer still will not boot up just the folder with the ?.
    Any suggestions?
Is buying and external cd romm drive my best option?
I have an original Tiger 10.4 disk. I was actually running SnowLepord on my g4 for the last year or so with no problem but Tiger is the only disk i currently can find.

Please help, this is one of my work computers. I’ll send out some of our films to you.
    Thanks, Chris

The operating system is on a totally separate drive, not included in the RAID. So just to clarify, if I put the three drives, included in the RAID, back into the computer, then it should remember the RAID and I should be able to access the information stored on those drives?
The real problem is that I have take the new drives out and I don’t want to lose the information that is on them.

    Thanks for the help.

I did what Rob suggested, compressed the video to HDV 1080i60, using compressor and when I go to Print to Video, it gives me the error message: “The sequence is not compatible with HDV print to video”

The sequence is HDV 1080i60, which FCP automatically set to what I dropped the compressed file onto the timeline.

Sorry – I didn’t explain myself well. I need to keep the footage in 1080i60, I just need to put it on a mini DV tape using a Sony A1U. Can I put DVCPRO HD 1080i 60 footage on a mini DV tape using a HDV camera? What do my audio/video settings need to be?

    Thanks

I’ve just been told by a few people that prores is a better, lossless, intermediate codec, especially if you are going to be using graphics, images, motion graphics, etc.

    Progressive.

I know that I could just do the math and slow down the clip the appropriate percentage to get it to real time. But I know there’s also got to be a way to remove frames.

    1.33 Pixel aspect

And the field dominance is set to none.

No, I have Livetype settings configured the same as my sequence setting in FCP.. That is for DVC Pro HD.

They just don’t look clean to me, but maybe I’m just being over sensitive to it..

They actually look quite a bit cleaner when I use the same font and do them right in FCP.
