Following up on this – Brought it to the attention of Sony Tech Support and I sent them a copy of my render template. They were able to re-create the error on their system.
I found a solution. In short – if you are looking to render a 1920×1080 Main Concept .mpg2, you need to make sure your “Level” in the Video tab is set to “High” under custom settings.

Another free way would be the conversion feature in the VLC player. I usually convert it to a high bit rate .wmv for Vegas. However, you can experiment with different codecs/containers and see what you like.

Someone else might do a better job diagnosing your problem. However, if this were happening to me, I would try rendering it out in the same format as the source footage, perhaps even just the trouble spots. Then import that file back into your timeline and, from that, render out to one of the formats allowed for the project.

I am not sure about Vegas 7, but the issue you are experiencing was a known issue with Vegas 9b and has been corrected with version 9c.

Oh wow, that’s a lot easier. John – would my method distort the image? I come across aspect ratio issues a lot and I’m always just winging it.

Have you downloaded the xvid codec? That should be all you need to do.

-Right click on one of your images in the timeline and UNcheck “maintain aspect ratio” under the Video Event tab and click OK.
-Now click on that same image again in the timeline and press CTRL+C. -Highlight all the rest of your images in the timeline, right click and select “Paste Event Attributes”.Pasting event attributes will automatically uncheck the “maintain aspect ratio” button on all the rest of the clips. Avoiding you from having to do it manually for each one.
You’ll see the letter boxing disappear from the preview monitor.

I use Vegas in an environment where we take clips off cable television, clip them, and put them online. We deal with a huge volume and rapid turnaround times.
On this topic… does anyone use Vegas with a Media Asset Manager like a traditional news environment would have? Right now we have 3 machines all recording the same footage locally, very redundant.
We would love to have 1 live stream that we could pull down from.
