I’m just wondering if installing new RAM affects the warranty. I would definitely boot it up with the factory RAM first to be sure it’s all ok.
One of the IT folks at my work was concerned because I opened a brand new MacPro case just to take a peek at the build quality and to familiarize myself with it, claiming that I had violated the warranty. That doesn’t sound right to me, but I wonder. Does anyone know out there? -
It definitely puts your motives in question from their point of view. I am by NO means saying that you had some sort of negative or vengeful motive, but I have to wonder what you would have done with that domain if it doesn’t relate directly to your own company. You could have played hardball with them (holding out and/or offering it to a competitor) and it sounds like they were prepared for that and acted on that assumption.
It doesn’t sound like the kind of situation I would want to be involved with unless I intended to play hardball with someone for profit or other motives. At J-School, I seem to remember being told that photographers always retain limited rights which only include use in your portfolio, unless they sign something that says otherwise. This would seem to follow the “part of your resume” approach mentioned by others. As long as you don’t negatively affect your ex-employers business or bottom line, and you make it clear that folks are looking at work IN YOUR PORTFOLIO, I think you are OK. I am going to ask HR at my employer to see if they have any ideas for me.

Thanks to all for your help. The COW rocks! I will check out the free 3D option, Blender, until I get a chance to pay to play. Blender looks pretty impressive at first glance.

You gotta love Creative COW forums!

I have been under the impression (from a tutorial if memory serves) that you can import 3D objects into Motion. Maybe I misunderstood what you meant by “geometry” which might include the background elements. In other words, my working understanding is that you can have 3D objects in Motion Three’s “2.5D” environment (see particles)but that you can’t create 3D-like objects (such as a simple cube) in Motion without time-consuming workarounds and hassle. I have tried the workarounds and have learned where a lot of the limitations are from the process.
Mark? Stephen? Could one of you set me straight, please? Much appreciate all the COW Forums help in the past and future.
Thanks!

February 14, 2011 at 3:30 pm in reply to: VerifyError: Error #1033: Cpool entry 20 is wrong type.I had some weirdness occur after the upgrade to IE8 on XP Pro SP 3. The IT dept won’t confirm it or fix it, but since the “up”grade to IE 8 I am no longer able to authenticate on the university’s trouble ticket tracking system (which is a PoS anyways) unless I have authenticated the same username at the machine level. Prior to the IE 8 upgrade, it worked fine. My 2 cents.

If large SD cards start going down in price, I am thinking about trying to boot WIN or OSX off of one. Kind of like a linux CD dist. HMMMM

Bottom Line: try to produce work that meets your customer’s expectations and their social context.
The couple will usually guide you in who to coordinate your shoot location with, usually the priest or other religius leader. Remember that this is someone with whom the couple have been establishing a relationship of trust and communication. If you want someone to discuss with the priest the factors that would lead to the best video or photo, let the couple. They have that relationship and are ostensibly buying both products (I mean no offense to any religous component of the ceremony): 1: your video or photos 2: the use of the Church and the services of the religious leader.
If you run up against a priest etc. that doesn’t take into account the request of their congregant and “client,” then chances are you would probably butt heads anyways. In that case, remember that it is about your client and you don’t want to burn any bridges for them or yourself. Weddings usually have enough prima donas without the videographer or photog being one.
Do your best to communicate with all involved, introduce yourself to others working the event as others have mentioned and you will find in many cases that you all have the same goal: to create a memorable, flawless event. -

January 14, 2011 at 3:39 pm in reply to: Black dots in my motion graphics when I put it on top of Canon FootageI don’t think the dots are particularly distracting, The first time I watched it I didn’t even think they were an artifact of the compression process but rather part of the title effect. That said…
What happens when you place the same title on another background? Dark vs. light background…you might see a hint to the solution.
I suspect the problem may be related to the colorspace but my understanding of colorspace theory is a bit limited. I suggest this because you are going from 422 to 4444. The black specks may be caused by a lack of color info at those pixels (those pixels are out of gamut) due to the overlap of the colorspaces.
You might want to ask something along those lines in a forum frequented by colorists (I hesitate to suggest the Apple Color forum, since it is technically off-topic)
Can anyone on this forum confirm this?
You could try exporting as a 422 colorspace to test this idea.
I am curious why you have Dave Chappelle as Rick James when Tribe mentions Rick James. I just thought I would point that out in case it was an oversight.
A suggestion-you might consider putting the individual rappers names on screen since they have aged since most of us were watching their videos. 😉
Good luck. Hopefully someone with more colorspace experience can shed some light on this. Cheers!
