How do you export it as a .mpg file?

With the cost of storage so cheap, why not export out a 30gb uncompressed archive version?

Try exporting direct from the FCP sequence and set your sequence to uncompressed. This should yield a higher quality result.

Correct. If your FCP sequence is Prores then then best to come out of AE in Prores.

If you are happy with your quicktime (animation) export, and would now like to create a DVD, you need to export it as MPEG2:
– Open Compressor and add your file
– Select one of the DVD standard settings and then modify it as follows:
– Frame Controls: on

Try using MPEG streamclip to convert the files to .mov:

What sort of hardware are you using? Editing uncompressed requires high end components such as a raid, high end graphics card and high end mac.

If your edit involves a number of layers, transitions, colour correction, keying etc then use Prores.
If it is mainly cuts only then stay in HDV.
