[Graham Bernard] “It now comes down to content:”
Grazzie is correct and it has been that way from the beginning. Content is King. However since this is a talkie, the best way to increase the chance of capturing your audience is to make the audio as pristine as possible. Since the audience can not see as good make certain that the dialogue is very easy to understand. Try not to create a soundscape of extraneous crescendos. Involve the listener tickle their ears. I have seen humans watch a really bad broadcast image with easy listening audio but it is rear to find humans watching great images bad audio.

Yes that is a good example and you are correct the draft render is definitely not presentable. So that answers my question.
As to what I am using for footage. I am using 10 bit Apple ProRez 422 (HQ) @ 30 P as source footage and rending to mp4 at around 10MB. Perhaps that is why there seems to be a tolerable result in the final render. None the less I will not be releasing any projects rendered in the lower rez mode. And thanks for looking at and pointing out the obvious.

Yes John, that is very true, the interesting part is that it appears there is little to no effect on the rendered file. The significance being that render time in my larger files is reduced from 6 hours to 4 hours. That is a substantial change.
The thing is though, there are varying degrees of success, in other words it does not always work as expected. This leads me to ask is this a bug or my install or system configuration or is it the norm?

Try installing VideoLan Media Player all codecs are contained withing app and do not get installed or become available for use in other apps. IE Vegas

Try dragging the bottom track to the top of the timeline and reset the composition mode to source alpha.

There’s nothing incredible about it, that is the platform Adobe is banking on. Then again is it desirable to have files out there available to any one with a bit of determination to get at them. Security is the issue, remember the little problem with some Hollywood celebs and apple last year.
Sure it’s secure, as long as no one knows it’s there or wants access to it.

[Scott Francis] “Saw that Hitfilm now can edit, wondering how it compares to Vegas?”
Yes Hit Film can slice and dice as can any compositor but it is not suited for cutting and has a weak audio section. For me best practice is to use HitFilm as a plug from inside Vegas.

For preview, I find it useful to create a video proxy from inside Vegas via the project media window. Right click on a piece of media and choose “create video proxy”. Look up video proxy in the help files to learn about it’s function. It’s actually kind of a slick little function.

Well there is the 32 bit limitation for Quicktime on the Windows platform but that’s about all I can think of. If you find issues beginning as the number of quicktime files increase, transcoding them to a codec that can be read by Windows will help. Of course if use Vegas then choose a codec friendly to Vegas.
