  • Hello again,

Q: Is there one VASST script/app that is specific to creating curved paths for pan keyframes?

A: No there are no VASST script/app that is specific to creating curved paths for pan keyframes. There are however scripts / modules specifically designed to generate the Ken Burns effect with just a few mouse clicks. I must disclose that I ventured to VASST.com to verify and have not found where you can purchase a licence save for a reference to a link ay sonycreativesoftware which I did not follow.

Q: Forgive me, but I’m not sure what you mean by “twirl down the timeline”.

A: Twirl down is a term that I myself did not understand. I do not know if you are aware of the sideways triangle within a circle icon that BCC uses to indicate a dropdown menu. Click on this icon is twirling down.Placing the mouse cursor, hovering, over one of these Icons a tooltip saying animation will pop up and if clicked on a timeline will appear at the bottom of the plugin. Here control over the slider can be exercised. At the very bottom of the plugin lower right side are two buttons. You may need to drag the plugin up to see it. One button says lane and to the right the button says curves. The curves will give you very precise control over the animation for that slider. Multiple sliders can be opened in the timeline viewing and editing of all sliders used to create the animation.

I hope I explained that well enough, if not, please let me know.

  • Hello,
I’m never really understood the need for bcc pan and zoom in Vegas since the effect can so easily be created in Vegas. Already you have found a smooth transition between keyframes in Vegas. Now just add track motion and this may yield the desired result. True , it was challenging to create the Ken Burns effect in other NLE but Vegas seems created for the task. If you do the effect often, try looking up Ultimate S By VASST It is a collection of useful scripts that really speed up Vegas workflow.

BCC Pan and Zoom has an incredible amount of controls for such a simple task. perhaps too many. There thing is that one needs to twirl down the timeline in the plugin to do custom animations. Is that what you are looking for? The animation controls in the plugin itself?

  • Ok lets try VLC.
Open a video that will not open in Vegas. In VLC under tools menu look for Codec information. This will give the codecs used to open the file. The same can be done with quicktime. By the way do you have Quicktime Pro installed? If you do, then Quicktime can be used to frame serve to Vegas.

So once you know the codec used to open the files then comes the hard part of finding out if the codec is available for Vegas to use. Obviously the Codec is available on the machine or other players could not open it either. Vlc comes with it’s own internal codec pack and does not rely on system codecs. That is why I wish to know what VLC says it is using.

Windows Media player can open the files, so the codecs are available. The question is in what order was Vegas and the codec pack installed on the machine that worked before. Was vegas installed first and then the codec pack? Or was the codec pack installed before Vegas. Was the order of installation the same in both versions of the Windows installation.

Either way, For myself were I faced with this problem I would first do a clean install. Uninstall Codec pack and Vegas using an uninstaller like Geek. There is a free version available from them here. https://geekuninstaller.com/download
Power down the machine to get a cold boot and reinstall Vegas and pray that it fixes the issue. Do not instal a codec pack. Also I like to have more than one NLE on a system so download Davinci Resolve from Blackmagic Design install it and use it for free. Hey you might end up like me and like it. I only installed Davinci Resolve as a backup NLE but now I use it more than Vegas.

Good Luck, let me know if this helps.

  • Hey there,
Shure you can instal 3rd party codecs but it’s not advisable to do so. It messes with the few good codecs Vegas does have. Any way I have not used Vegas since Magix got a hold of it. But I would suggest a no compression YUV or at least a png image sequence. If you use jpg you will be using . jpg compression something you need to avoid if you wish to retain the data. You can also instal Avid DNX codec and use the highest settings like DNXHD 422. I don’t recall if you get 444 for free. Blackmagic Design has a utility called Desktop Video which will install the BMD equivalent of a prores codec and it will also show up in Vegas and is capable of 444 compression. The codec packs will simply mess up Vegas and you may not even know if you are using Vegas or a third party codec. With a handful of exceptions such as Avid or Main Concept, I stick to the codecs camera manufacturers release. After all, they are written for their cameras.

Be aware, these codecs take up a considerable amount of room on your drive. So do what you need done and then get rid of the extra files.

Hi Bruce, are we talking about Fusion or Resolve?
    Russ

  • Just post a screenshot of GSpot and is quicktime installed on the machine. Vegas uses Quicktime to access .mov files but Vegas does not use Windows media player. Also Third Party codec pack seem to rely heavily on ffmpeg and may replace the sony versions of the codec which was licensed and modified for use in Vegas. It is generally considered best practice to use the codecs provided and installed by the NLE editors authors.

  • Soo.. Can the evil videos be opened in Quicktime? Or Win Media Player? Is there a copy of Gspot available to see which codecs are used to read file?

Are the keyframes enabled. More importantly, are there any keyframes.
The Track motion is is placed on a clip or is it applied on the timeline?

Hello, are the file extensions .mp4 or .mov. If .mov you may need to have QuickTime installed in order for Vegas to access the files.

Oh my goodness. Ok I played out this story a few years back and as s result I put Vegas away. Not just because of the round trip issues but also to the total lack of support from Magix.
The final conclusion to roundtrip was that Vegas XML export works well enough for one track of Video and audio. Then from resolve 12.5 to FCP works great both ways. Problems arise when editing multiple tracks of A/V. Vegas seems to invert the stacking order of the tracks. This is compounded if simple cross fades both audio and video are used. The whole thing becomes a mess that takes more time to put back in orser than it is to re edit.
However Resolve 14 is a strong contender as an editor that is cross platform. Resolve is free and stays within the boundaries of a traditional workflow so insisting a junior editor installs it on their machine is not unreasonable. Senior editors can customise Resolve keyboard to emulate Final Cut or Avid or any way you feel comfortable.
