  • Yes, that would be ideal – however I’m working on a project with someone who believes that After Effects is the be-all-end-all – he has a few of the ready2go AE packages – of course I want to demonstrate that Vegas is more than “an amateur” app (we’ve all had to work with these types) I’ve already sold him on Vegas in general, would like to put it over the top by demonstrating some import/export capabilities.

  • David,

Unfortunately I have not had the opportunity to properly follow-up on the issue. However, it is still something I’m very interested in – since a good amount of time has passed since I made the original post, perhaps there is a new device out on the market, but I’m not sure.

I’ll have a look and let you know if I come up with anything – good luck

November 17, 2011 at 6:43 pm in reply to: Best Project Properties & Rendering Settings?

    John,

As always, many thanks for your comments. I now realize I left out a very important piece of information from my initial posting: the original footage was shot in SD (and I often find myself in this situation of shooting SD). There were a few reasons for this; the customer ultimately wants a SD DVD, the duration of the show was such; if I shot in HD I would have had to get additional camera media (100min performance) to capture, way too much footage to archive (4 EX1r multi-cam shoots). The probability of THIS customers wanting HD versions in the future is very remote. (However, with several of my key customers, I always shoot in HD and archive no matter the immediate final deliverable request)

Also, I double checked the EX1r audio specs – yes, as you commented it does record at 48K. However, when I check the clip properties on my timeline, the camera footage properties shows 44k? Perhaps because my audio project setting were set for 44k? I’ll double check when I get back to Vegas tonight.

So with my clarification (shooting SD, 720/480, 29.97p – looking to produce a SD DVD), what Project Property and Render Settings would you recommend?

Any Vegas v11 compatibility issues with Prodad Adorage? Is Prodad Adorage 64bit compatible?

  • Wow – do I feel like a dope – I’ve been using Vegas since forever – but only recently with HD footage. When I first started using HD cameras (EX1r), I shot simple 720p single camera stuff to get used to the camera. So my Vegas didn’t stress – now it does. I’ve only recently started to shoot multi-cam, 1920x1080i footage.

So today I had an epiphany! After doing some more research, I now understand why products like GEARSHIFT are even necessary!! I came across an interesting forum that gave a basic overview; I’d like to share with other HD beginners like myself: https://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?152079-How-Vasst-GearShift-tames-AVCHD-in-Vegas-Pro-My-Review

So I’ll download the trial of GEARSHIFT and give it a try. Any suggestions of what intermediary format to go to (original format HD 1920x1080i)? Again, apologies in advance if this is a stupid question, and one that will be self-evident once I download the GEARSHIFT trial.

    John,

    U B the Man!

I knew I read about using the two together somewhere, dopey me should have checked the manual again instead of crying out to the masses!

That’s why I recommend to all the Vegas users to check out UltimateS – not only are you getting a great product that’s going to save you tons of time, but no product is better supported.

    As always, many thanks

  • Could this be the problem… the machine I am running Vegas on is my production machine, so it is typically not connected to the internet… does Vegas “call home” during each startup? I’m not at my home suite now so I can’t test. I’d find it hard to believe that other editors would keep their main machine connected to the internet full time. (??)

    Todd,

Many thanks for your comments. The fan noise is something I did not factor in.

Of course no one likes dealing with the heat, but I’m not sure what options I have. Attached is a photo of the room of the shoot. The event will be in the evening so there will be no natural light, and the ambient house light is minimal. Whatever light I go with, there must be some throw since they will not be on top of the talent (I’m estimating 15’ to 20’ lights to talent – tomorrow I’ll be making proper measurements). Other than tungsten, what else is there? Can you purchase (or perhaps rent) LED or florescent panel solutions with enough wattage for under say $750/$1k? If so, what would you suggest? I’d just hate to rent. I have to start acquiring lighting.

    Thanks again
