  • Excruciating long time to open a previously saved .veg file in Vegas 10

I recently upgraded to Vegas 10, 64bit, and noticed on some projects (not all strangely enough) the time to load a previously saved (originally created in V10) .veg is excruciating long – sometimes 10 to 15 minutes!

For example, I’m working on a multi-cam project with 3 cameras; 3 video and 3 audio tracks. I’m using PluralEyes to sync and UltimateS to switch. The machine is an Apple MacPro, Quad Core with 14G memory running a Windows 7 partition – so it’s safe to say the machine horse power is not to blame.

I never experienced this problem using Vegas 8 (32bit), my last version (running on the same machine) before upgrading to v10.

Has anyone else experienced a very long time to open a .veg running Vegas 10? Could there possibly be a program configuration that I’m not setting properly that is contributing to long loading time?

Could this be the problem… the machine I am running Vegas on is my production machine, so it is typically not connected to the internet… does Vegas “call home” during each startup? I’m not at my home suite now so I can’t test. I’d find it hard to believe that other editors would keep their main machine connected to the internet full time. (??)

This sounds like you’re creating the .sfk files again.
I use the longer load times as a good excuse to stretch my legs once in a while.

I do notice a short delay when starting up my 4 x 1 hour track multi-cam HDV projects (with Ultimate S Pro 4.1) when it appears nothing is happening (v9 used to give you a progress indicator in the bottom left of screen), but it’s usually under a minute. I don’t run Vegas within a virtual machine or dual boot configuration, so I cannot rule that out as the culprit.

I used to experience slow load times for certain projects in v9 because it was looking for media assets I had renamed or moved using windows Explorer, and not via the Project Media bin.

Vegas does not appear to ‘call home’ as I can open the same project on my standalone laptop at about the same speed.

    Intel i7 920, 12GB RAM, ASUS P6T, Vegas Pro 10 (x32/x64), Windows 7 x64 Ultimate, Vegas Production Assistant 1.0, VASST Ultimate S Pro 4.1, Neat Video Pro 2.6
