As long as you’re using Firewire 800, you should be fine.

DVCPROHD tops out at around 16MB/sec and a G-Raid can give you between 60-80MB/sec over Firewire 800

It’s really hard to tell. The best approach is to buy when you need it. That way, regardless of what happens, you had to buy your system then.

I have read rumors of possible 6-core processors headed to the Mac Pro, but when they’ll actually come is up in the air. I will say that the current dual 4-core Mac Pros are great and won’t be out dated anytime soon (even if there are dual 6-core processors out there).

For troubleshooting, I’d take out the AJA card and uninstall the AJA drivers. Then see if it’s still happening.

Next, if you installed after market RAM, I’d take that out and see if it makes a difference.

Meaning it’s too small to see what’s happening? That’s SD for you. You don’t need to always have it at 100%, only when you’re trying to see the file at it’s native resolution.

For each 6.0.x update, you have had to update the project to the new version. That’s why you got the warning.

As far as the render problem, it sounds like you have corrupt file some where. When this happens to me, I render the project in sections. When a section is done, I save the project and start with another section. I do this until I find the section that’s having the problem. Then you can find the clip.

The first thing you need to do is set your canvas to 100%. Any other setting other than that isn’t a representation of what your image resolution is.

Motion is part of Final Cut Studio (free). Do you have Final Cut Studio or an old version of FCP?

I’d use AE or Motion. I’d track the face, then have the blur connected to the track.
