No. It isn’t in the highest maximum quality. DV is good for offline editing, but isn’t considered an online codec. I would suggest re-digitizing your Digibeta footage as ProRes or Uncompressed SD.
Your miniDV footage isn’t going to get any better than DV, so you can just keep it how it is. Your HDV footage would probably work out best if you downconverted it to SD and captured it as ProRes. Or you could just down convert the HDV footage using Compressor or something like that.

A couple of times recently I’ve had footage that if you render it at all, the clip’s in and out point change. I’ve very frustrating and difficult to deal with.
So to test if you’re having the same problem, check to see if your 23.98 exported file for AE is completely in sync.
Just thought I’d thought this out just in case.

Unfortunately, no, there is not a simple answer. Only simple marketing.
Can you say more specifics about the frame rate and resolution of your timeline, HD footage and SD footage?

For some reason it looks like that’s how FCP deals with the footage.
It makes sense though because anamorphic really is the same resolution as 4×3. They’re both 720×480. So if you want to cut off some of the edges of the anamorphic, you’re really using something like 480×480 to fit within a 720×480 frame size. So that’s why you would scale the footage to 134 and then squish it by -33.33.
The other option would be to take the footage into Motion or AE and render out a 854×480 clip and then use that. If you use AE, you could nest a widescreen comp into a 4×3 comp and I don’t think AE would scale it to make it would. It would probably look better than the FCP option.

The log and capture preview isn’t a reflection of what the video file really is. It’s a low res version of it. If it looks good on a TV, then you’re probably in good shape.
You can also open up the captured files in QuickTime and see what they look like. Just make sure that High Quality is turned on for the clip under visual settings. (Apple+J)

Not that I know of, but if you’re shooting P2 on a HVX200, it does have a interval record feature.

I would drop the files into compressor and export them at 720P. Or in FCP 6, you can just use them in a 720P timeline. I would also render them to either ProRes or DVCPROHD instead of going back to HDV.

If you play the clip in QuickTime, does it jitter? (Make sure high quality video is selected for the clip under visual settings).

Does it help if you change your timeline to have a field dominance of “none” instead of “upper” or “lower”? What if you change the field dominance of the clip?
