We do want dual display, but what is the real difference between the GeForce GT 120 512MB and the ATI Radeon HD 4870 512MB ?? “I’d definitely go with the 4870. It’s a much better card, especially for Apple apps.

Currently, having two display cards causes more problems than it’s worth. Just run both monitors off of one card.

The big advantages with the 8-core is first, obvious, but more processors and second, more RAM. If I were going to spend the money, I’d go with the 8-core 2.26 with the ATI and AppleCare.

You need a card that can capture component and that has serial deck control. There are several models that will work. You’ll need to get they type of card that will work with your system (pci-x or pci-express), or you can get a firewire option like the AJA IO LA. The two main players in the market are AJA and Blackmagic Design, with Matrox getting into the market again.

My hunch is that the next FCS is joined at the hip with Snow Leopard and the new QuickTime. I’m not getting my hopes up about anything until Snow Leopard is out. In my mind Snow Leopard is like a big, secret, cryptic road map:)

I usually use the timecode reader or timecode generator filters in the video filters folder. But if I’m just looking for it to match the sequence, then sometimes it works just to export to a file that will keep the timecode track and then just change QuickTime Player’s counter to timecode instead.

Your best bet is to play with eq filters and see if you can filter out the frequency that the noise is coming from. Sometimes this works and other times it effects the dialogue too much.

I’d suggest using SoundTrack Pro to reduce the noise. It’s cool because you can choose a point where all you hear is the noise, then tell it to try to reduce that noise throughout the whole clip.

What is the source that you’re digitizing from? FCP really doesn’t deal with LUTs at all, which is unfortunate. In fact, it doesn’t really deal with 4:4:4 all that well either.
I can only think of a couple of ways to use LUTs in FCP. One is through DPX files using GlueTools. The other is by using a Kona 3 or BlackMagic card and adding the LUT through the output.

Don’t know. But in compressor, there is a place under the appleTV settings that says, “Include Dolby 5.1”. Not sure how it works, but you should play with it.
