Hi
For anyone else following this thread….I was also looking to do the “Harry Potter” effect with particle particular. I found this tutorial to be helpful. https://youtu.be/K-onp3cNRaw
One interesting approach in the above tutorial is the use of a camera to adjust the direction.Rowby

March 5, 2013 at 5:59 pm in reply to: Best practice camera settings for Mark III Green screen shootingThanks. Have made note of the ISO settings. Any other settings on the camera that are important. (Canon Mark iii is what I use).
I know the importance of good even lighting, and standing away from the background.
What about depth of field? FOr example I read somewhere that keeping the green screen slightly out of focus can be helpful.
Any other thoughts would be appreciated!
Thanks

December 20, 2012 at 7:09 pm in reply to: Exporting Quicktime or WIndows AVI alpha Channel in Premiere CS5Hi Jeff,
I tried using the Dynamic Link but ran into headaches. So I installed and used the Matrox Codex as you suggested.
It looks great.
In Premiere’s CS5 Export Settings I used the following:
Format: Microsoft AVI
Preset: Custom
Video Format: Matrox MPEG-2 I-Frame HD + Alpha (Several Matrox Codex were automatically added to the dropdown via the easy Matrox installation program that came in the zip.)I followed the PDF’s instructions that were included in the zip file and made sure my settings (i.e. Frame Rate) matched the source file.
Then imported it into After Effects and it came with the alpha channel and the correct aspect ratio.
Your advice was very valuable to me — and I am sure to others. And now I have an additional export tool (the various Matrox codex).
And for those who are wondering, you don’t have to have a Matrox card installed in your machine to take advantage of the codex.

Rowby

But will a dynamic link handle an alpha channel coming IN from Premiere?
Specifically I have a video which has a alpha channel in premiere. Hmmmm…. I guess what you are saying makes sense…..?????
🙂

Thanks for your reply.
I’m importing it into After Effects CS5. I’ll check your settings and download the Matrox codec from your link.
I’ll report back here the results!

November 23, 2012 at 11:53 pm in reply to: Looking to download Canon 5d Mark III foootage to test on my system.Hi Shane,
This article implies that there are two file sizes that the Mark III can use.
Both are H.264. But different compressions. One they call ALL-I and the other they call IPB. All-I has a much larger file size, as I understand it. I am wondering if the bigger file size would take more cpu to work with.

Your thoughts?
Thanks!

Thanks Dave,
That’s exactly what I was looking for. I’m familiar with keyframes but AE clearly has some features that I am not used to.
So off to the tutorial links you supplied.
Best regards

Thanks Dave for your response.
I’ll check that manual.
The problem I’m having is over time (animation) I keep seeing nodes being added to my cc simple wire removal tool.
I start out with something very simple — A & B — but as I move to later frames, other nodes seem to spring up for no “reason”,extending my original A&B — adding curve handles, etc.
I am sure it has something to do with some very basic After Effects concept that I am missing.
