  • On Red one, 4480×1920 actually gives a 2.33:1 aspect ratio.
I’m working in 2k and not 4k so the frame size is 2240 x 960

BMD have to produce a API which will allow 3rd parties to develop drivers for their products.
So its not up to AJA or Avid or even Tangent, its all up to BMD to produce there API

    Cool, thanks Peter
    That clears it up.
nVidia SDI is used like other use it, just for monitoring.

I’ll buy Resolve on Linus when Blackmagic allow you to build your own system as I don’t have the pockets to pay for someone else to the the job I can do myself.

    Hi there

I know the Mac doesn’t support the nVidia SDI card… I’m asking about the Linux version, not the Mac.

Please clarify… the lInux version (1 version) supports the nVidia SDI card if you have it installed.. else it uses the Decklink card if you don’t have the nvidia SDI card installed?

Just trying to clear this up.

I understand that you can build up the Linux station with added hardware (multiply GPU etc) but do you have to purchase an addition add on to Resolve to take advantage of the added hardware? Or is it already built into Resolve and adding the hardware activates it?

    thanks for the info Chrispy

Its strange that they don’t tap into the nVidia SDI for better throughput, everyone else does (Smoke, Flame, Lustre, Scratch etc)

If its only used in the 3D model, does that mean you have to purchase that separately and its not part of the Resolve?

What are the different options on Linux as the Mac you have just one product that was said to be the exact same as the Linux version?

who cares what it looks like as long at it works.
drilling a hole in a MacPro seems the way to go as Apple have left the Pro market behind for iToys.
Besides the MacPro is out of sight away from the monitors and will be outdated and worthless soon enough just like all computer hardware you buy… look at SGI, you can’t even sell one to use as a door stop these days 🙂

Joseph, I don’t think its fair to aim Resolve at the $900 mark as there are a lot of “cottage” freelancers doing amazing work for high profile clients, they are just not a facility.

If Resolve was $20k on Linux and with the Panel its was $50k as advertised and you could bypass the middle men resellers and you could build a single GPU system on Linux for around $65k total.

Not a small amount of change but not too bad if you’re able to make money from the system.

Look at the RED model. They sell a high end tool for a fraction of what others are selling theirs for, they have truly giving the industry a shake up and are just about to blow it out the water with EPIC.

BM had the chance to do that with Resolve but with there reseller policy all they have done is create hype with a lot of hidden extra’s, which is quite confusing compared to what they are doing with the Mac version… its like they are two separate companies, the Linux and Mac.

I think there is something in the speculation that BM have to wait till support contracts run out as this talk about only resellers having the brain power to build a PC is just BS.

come on Peter, purchasing a product from nVidia isn’t that be a deal. You made it sound like you’re purchasing some highly flammable illegal substance… its PC hardware that in a 5 years will sell on eBay for $100 or be used as a door stop, just like the SGI boxes.

Besides the config I’m referring to doesn’t have the Nvidia 2200 S4, the reseller wants $35k for a single GPU PC which is comparable to a Mac Pro.

Its just software and hardware so I don’t get why you seem to think that only resellers could possible put a Linux station together.
