You are right, I already totally forgot about all this. I really need to get using another NLE more often (-:

[Jeremy Garchow] “My favorite part was the middle finger to the iMac.”
I’m glad I wasn’t the only one chuckling about this. We will definitely get at least one R2D2 when they come out and we’ll see where we go from there. We already have some maxed out iMacs in production and these little things surely rock with FCPX. If the performance of this new MP is really as futuristic as its form-factor my purchase budget for 2014 is in danger (-:

September 3, 2013 at 7:03 pm in reply to: Adding a Connected Clip BENEATH another connected clip…..In FCPX you can drag the new clip straight from the Browser under the existing connected clip in the Timeline. The existing connected clip will automatically move upwards.
In another NLE you first have to move the existing clip on track 2 one track higher to make room for the new clip, then add the new clip to the empty track under the existing clip.

September 3, 2013 at 12:19 pm in reply to: Excellent blog on FCP X workflow shortcomingsI have really appreciated reading Oliver’s blog, as always, and not for one moment have I seen his story as a statement about any workflow shortcomings in FCPX. So I honestly don’t know where the OP is getting this idea.
Editors use a range of different tools because there is not one tool that does everything every single job requires. FCPX is great NLE, we start and finish 70% of all our work right inside the app. For jobs with intensive VFX and grading requirements we have established a seamless workflow around FCPX for editing and Smoke and Resolve for finishing. With this combination there is nothing we cannot achieve.
OTOH I’m looking forward to what Motion X will bring. Logic X is already very promising on the audio side, so we may see a brand-new integrated FCS suite coming around in the near future. Things are looking bright on the X-side, and if we ever would need to make a customized DVD again we still have DVDSP (-:

Hi Sascha,
I made a mistake in my e-mail address, the first dot should not bet there.
I have sent you an e-mail with the presets. Enjoy!– Ronny

Hi Sascha,
You can use any Compressor 3 presets in Compressor 4. I have done this, so if you Just send me an e-mail at ronny(dot)courtens(at)mac(dot)com I will send you a ZIP file with all the Compressor 3 DVD presets.
Un-ZIP the file to get the “DVD Presets” folder. Then go to User>Library> Application Support>Compressor>Settings folder and drop the “DVD Presets” folder into the Settings folder. When you launch Compressor 4 you will see all your familiar DVD presets under Custom Settings.

August 30, 2013 at 12:08 pm in reply to: Lost 3rd party plug-ins after upgrade to FCPX 10.0.9Just to confirm what Nicholas says: I have one FCPX system with just about any third-party plugin you can imagine for testing purposes. I have double-checked and every plugin is still there after the 10.9 update.
As I cannot find any reason why some of your plugins have disappeared re-installing them is probably the best solution.

I concur with Oliver’s assessment.
For our daily editing tasks FCPX already has all the features we need in our shop. Improving these features where required, taking into account what users have frequently requested, would be perfect to start with.
When it comes to new features a (very) deep integration with Logic X and an updated Motion X are highest on my list. This would instantly add a powerful audio mixer + much, much more on the audio side and professional keyframing, simple but effective motion tracking, animatable multipoint masking + much, much more on the compositing side. Most of these features have also been frequently requested by professional users.
I can’t imagine a perfectly seamless integration between the NLE timeline and advanced finishing tools like we have in our Smoke 2013 workflow will be possible in FCPX, at least not in 10.1 yet. If we already could send FCPX projects back and forth to Motion and Logic without any glitches, the existing features get improved and we see a significant boost in overall FCPX performance on the new MacPro, I will be a very happy editor.

As you are cross-posting this I will post the link to the detailed replies already given on another forum. This way people here can see if they want to add something to what already has been answered, without having to go through every detail once again:
