Yeah, pinpoint is exactly what I don’t need. I hear the scrolling works better on the Graphire. Someday I might grab an Intuos also, but the Graphire will serve me well for now. I don’t find it feels any cheaper than the Intuos, btw. Maybe you’re comparing to to the older Graphire?

I still get both the Intuos and the Graphire locking up in FCP when using the shuttle tool in either the Canvas or Viewer. Bummer. Must be a graphics card issue? Locks up on both a dual 2.7 and single 1.8 G5.

Great tools anyway, no matter which you get. Too bad Wacom doesn’t feel confident enough in their Intuos, though, and have to end up crippling the Graphire driver to compensate. That’s really what it comes down to.

BTW, for anyone who gets the Graphire, I love using the popup menu option. I mapped one of the tablet buttons to activate the pop up and you can add whatever functions you want. I’ve added all kinds of key commands (copy, paste, new tab, new bin, close window, etc) and I hardly need to reach for the keyboard or mouse now. Thankfully, they didn’t cripple that feature!

Really? I find it just great. I’ve used an Intuos and I really don’t feel that big a difference. What in particular do you notice? I’m curious, so I can keep it in mind when I go back to the Intuos.

FWIW, I like to move very fast, so pinpoint accuracy isn’t a big thing for me. I overcrank my mouse, also. One thing for sure, I refuse to pay $150 more for added driver features.

Try deleting your Final Cut Pro user ID file and re-serializing.

Computer > Library > Application Support > ProApps > Final Cut Pro System ID

Might have to delete “Final Cut Studio System ID” too, if that doesn’t do the trick.

    Hope that helps!

  • Ah, cool. That’s definitely less clunky. Thanks for the tip!

  • Highlight your clip in the browser and hit “shift-d” and choose to put the clip in the trash. Then you should be able to control click in the audio column and change the setting. If not, you might have to open the log and capture window, paste your media start and media end into the In and Out (copy them from the offline clip in your browser) and go to the clip settings tab in your log and cap window and choose the appropriate audio setting, then hit F2 or ‘log clip,’ delete the old clip and capture the new one.

    Hope that makes sense.

John, this is a response I got from Don Greening a while back on the same subject:

“You’ll notice that once you’ve loaded your multiclip into the viewer that the active video track has a blue border and the active audio track has a green one. Before you start to cut just make sure that you have FCP set up to just cut the video and not the audio, otherwise you’ll cut to the active video track’s audio each time, which is what I understand you don’t want to do. Page 280 in volume II will explain this better than I.”

    Hope that helps!

[walter biscardi] “Wow, never heard that one. We never saw that in either of our FCP systems running FCP 3, 4 or 5.”

Walter, I tried the tablet on another G5 (1.8 Ghz running 10.4.6 w/ 1.5 GB’s RAM and FCP 5.0.4) and it suffers the same exact problem. Actually, the dual 2.7 would bog down for longer. Straaange.

Do your machines have the graphics cards updated in them?

    G5 Dual 2.7 GHz
    2 GB RAM
    OS 10.4.6
    FCP 5.0.4
    QT 7.1.1

That’s a great idea! It wasn’t my tablet, so I didn’t want to start messing with the settings too much. But it’s nice to know you can do that. I think Wacom has every base covered, don’t they?

What size do you use, Rob? I bet a 4×5 is handier for lugging around if that’s a factor?
