Actually, the more I used it, I got a nice feel for sliding the pen back and forth in the TL to cue up a frame. It started to feel very natural and faster than JKL (though, I love JKL and am always amazed at how many people still don’t use them or know they exist!).
I think I’m going to love having a Wacom finally, though.

Ah, thanks! This is good to know. Going to order one up for myself right now. What size do you use, btw, Cofe? Do have any advice regarding size? I’ll be using a 20″ main monitor and a 17″ 2nd screen for my browser.

That fixed it, eh? That sucks. I feel for you.

Thanks a lot for the reply, Walter. I wonder what the problem could be? Any ideas? Could it be a graphics card issue? I’m not at that particular workstation at the moment, so I’m not sure what card that G5 has, but whatever came installed on the dual 2.7’s.
Have you tried a 4×5 size? I guess it all comes down to personal preference. Or maybe I just haven’t used the 6×8 enough yet.
Thanks,
Ron

Ah, there’s the difference. To me, anwyay, that’s not documentary. It’s informational video. To me, documentary is storytelling and takes a LOT of time. It’s really an art, like carving or sculpting.
I’m not saying informational doesn’t take skill, but I think it’s an entirely different beast than documentary filmmaking (which is not to be confused with “reality tv” bulls**t).
Times might be changing, sure, but filmmaking is still filmmaking and storytelling still storytelling. FireWire hasn’t changed that yet.

On deadline :-(([eightfish] “if frame blending is turned off, 30% means every frame is repeated about 3 to 4 times, but sometimes, every now and then, that goes to about 6 to 7 frames, creating a rough – stop action like feeling”
Isn’t that just the way FCP does it? You’re just seeing the repeated frames b/c they’re not blended.
What you want is a plugin like Twixtor (if it’s still even called that?) which uses motion differencing to create the slo-mo. It’s light-years better.

Tim, so I wonder if you’d notice any quality difference in rendered material (especially after, say, colour correcting your entire show, if you’ve had to do that) from by-passing the rendering in the Timeline by exporting directly from FCP.
Originally, I thought FCP would simply render the material to timeline codec *before* exporting it to MPEG-2, but many people swear that it will by-pass the extra pass of DV25 compression and go straight to MPEG-2. This could, of course, give you better results with effects, graphics, titles, etc.
So I guess now the question is what is more valuable: by-passing the added compression or a faster encode (?)
Because, when you export a reference movie, it’s going to render anything that requires rendering, right, and then reference those render files?

Post back about the fan problem. Curious to see how they deal with it.

[Tim Langston] “WOW!!! When using compressor thru FCP on a 22 minute program it took a little more than 3 hours to encode for DVD using 2 pass VBR. Taking the same 22 minute program…making a Quicktime Ref. file and encoding that the same way only took 29 minutes! I didn’t relize the time savings. Now the only problem is, if you are using Boris FX as transitions….they don’t like to show up in a QuickTime Ref. file, at least that’s what I remember.”
What codec/sequence settings are you using in your Timeline?
