March 8, 2010 at 12:50 pm in reply to: need advice on cleaning up stray pixels and using multiple codecsAh great thanks, I’ll try using the VBR, but at some point I’d like to try what you propose by sticking to the same codec but at different settings.
How would I do this, would I add in and out points?
I’ve never done anything in compressor but mess around with the settings and encode the entire video, so I’m not sure how to do all of that extra stuff.

March 8, 2010 at 12:18 pm in reply to: need advice on cleaning up stray pixels and using multiple codecsThanks for your answer Daniel, just a quick one, where would I find the temporal noise reduction filters, would that be in the filter section of the particular codec I’m using within compressor?
To answer your question I’m trying to achieve the best quality non lossy video I can, my video contains quite a few static or slow moving shots combined with some fast energetic dancing, as I understand it may be better to encode the dancing bits differently.
On this one time is not such a big issue.

It looks like your sequence settings were set incorrectly, when you drop the clips into your timeline FCP should ask you if you want to set your sequence settings to the same as your clip settings, say yes and everything should be ok.
If FCP doesn’t ask you this then you need to go into easy set up and set formats to all formats.

Yeah if money’s not a problem go for an 8 core, you can always get more RAM down the line, but swapping your processor, it’s not so easy I believe. I have a quad and wish I had an 8.
good luck and happy editing.

Many thanks

I have the same camera Natasha and the only time I use the tape part of it, is if I’m doing a job that the client absolutely needs the tape as soon as I’ve finished filming; otherwise stick with HD if you’re using an FS hard drive then set it to quicktime 720p for nice easy headache free editing.

February 23, 2010 at 8:43 am in reply to: Am I really the only one to have had export problems with XDCAM ex footage?Hi Rafael,
When I tweaked the H.264 settings I kept getting problems, the main tweak I was doing was changing the size from the default to 1920×1080 or to 1280×720.
I also messed around with the bitrate, sometimes bringing it down to as low as 1000mbps.
I also tried changing the key frames, but after advice from you I left those on auto and just tried adjusting the size and was still getting problems.
The apple HD settings seem to be Apple specific codecs and therefore will only play on a recent mac so those were no good to me.
So it would seem that it’s the size that makes a difference and from now on I guess I’ll output at half the size whether it be 1080 or 720 and that will solve my problems, I’m hoping.
Unless you know of a good codec to use whereby I can give someone a good quality full size version of my HD footage?
many thanks
