Nope I’m not kidding and yes you’re right I can’t run FCP on a PC, but after Apple gave me and every other pro FCP editor in the world the finger, why would I want to? I’m buying a PC and running Adobe Premiere; oh happy days 🙂

I imagine that Apple has absolutely no incentive whatsoever to make the new system work with what is essentially defunct software. They kicked us editors in the nuts once by discontinuing it and replacing it with a child’s toy, so why would they bother to fix any issues?

Sorry more an observation than an answer to the original question.

My god man! Don’t do it, don’t do it, don’t do it!!!! Stick to PC and you’ll have a computer that will carry on working normally.

Get yourself a Mac and enter into the world of Schroedinger’s Mac, whereby each time you turn it on you won’t be sure if it’s going to work the same way it worked when you turned it on.

Being a PC user, you will have become accustomed to the lines of logic that PCs work along, unfortunately logic seem’s to be a dirty word in the world of Mac, the reasons are too numerous to go into (unless you really, really want me to) but put it this way; in 2006 I bought a laptop on which to run Avid Xpress on, today more than 7 years later it still work’s and in fact is what I’m typing on now. In 2009 I paid £2500 for a Mac Pro desktop and have never put it on the internet and have only run FCP and associated programs on it, last week it inexplicably stopped working, so now my earning potential has been seriously effected and I can’t afford to buy a ‘proper’ computer.

Buying a Mac is the biggest single purchasing mistake I have ever made, if I can stop one person making the same mistake as me, it’ll be a good thing.

Shooting PN will give you roughly twice as much space, don’t ask me to explain why, but it does.

  • No, it’s weird I’ve tried searching and found nothing; (I must say this is putting me off Premiere, though we’re onto CS7 now aren’t we?)

My workaround has been to export the FCP XML from Premiere, then import into my FCP project, then log and transfer the footage (as it won’t reconnect via the BPAV folder) then reconnect the footage (phew!), then export my timeline (wipe’s brow).

  • Thanks for your answer Paul, but that hasn’t worked, I actually tried that before but it says it’s going into a particular folder (checked and double checked) but after the export’s finished the file isn’t there. Any ideas?

    Many thanks

Hi Sorry for the delay Sacha, have been away. I think my answer is now defunct anyway as Andrew has more experience with it than me. I just used it once for a short project; I’d go with his answer.
