    Hey Guys,

I have to rent a camera for an all day presentation event and am deciding between the Sony EX-3 or HPX250. It is a two camera shoot and the other camera will be the HPX-370 which will be used as the close up angle. I know that the 250 will match better with 370 but theoretically (at least price would dictate) that the EX-3 is superior. Can somebody weigh in and help me out with this decision?

*Note I will be shooting in AVC-Intra 50 so it will be 4:2:0

    Thanks!

I would go with the HPX250. Both cameras can shoot the same codec. Mixing codecs will be troublesome in the edit suite.

Are you shooting AVC-I 50 so you can save on P2 card space? If, yes, shoot 30PN.

    Hi Steve,

Yes I am, why should I shoot 30PN instead of 24?

    Thanks,

Shooting PN will give you roughly twice as much space, don’t ask me to explain why, but it does.

This is interesting. I just shot a corporate event using an HPX300 and an HPX250. We shot in AVC-50 at 30p as well. We did this to save drive space, and since the video wasn’t going to be broadcast, we didn’t need full resolution. The video project went very well.

I recommend the HPX250. It will match the HPX370 better than the Sony EX3. The Panasonics share the same sensor set and codec.

I agree, I also suggest that you use the 370 for your wide shot. The rule of thumb in a multi camera shoot is to put your best camera in the wide shot because anything looks good zoomed in. I have two Sonys and an AF100 matching the footage can be very difficult depending on the situation. Gerry in Calgary
