Well I must be really unlucky, because it just keeps crashing, I left it on all night I woke up and it says some of my data is corrupted even though that particular piece of data can be read by FCP. I’m cancelling my account and going back to trusty old yousendit.

May 18, 2010 at 10:56 pm in reply to: Compressor and HVX200 P2 1280×720 onto Youtube optimizedYeah file sizes are going to be big, I’m fine with that because most of my uploads will only be a few minutes max, youtube now accepts up to 2gb as you know, but that will take a long time to upload, but I think the quality makes it worth it.
If you want to lower the file size, the first thing I would do would be to bring down the data rate, restrict to 3,500 kbits and see what that gives you any lower and you probably won’t be happy with the results.
If that’s still too big, then space out the keyframes a bit more, though there is an art with key framing or rather I should say a mathematical formula which I simply don’t know, I use trial and error a lot of the time when it comes to key framing.
Good luck and happy uploading.

May 18, 2010 at 8:51 pm in reply to: can’t create a QT movie master to use for streamingThat certainly sounds weird Tom, just a thought though, why do you make a QT master in the first place? Why not just create a stream file direct by just sending the rendered sequence to compressor?

As an addendum to my answer to Michael, I didn’t realise you meant mobile me, I actually signed up for a trial account earlier today and to upload 13.27 gig to my public folder it said it was going to take a whopping 71 hours, and then it crashed on me, don’t know if that was because it was a P2 contents folder or because of my connection, but I definitely didn’t find it an ideal solution.

That’s a very good point Michael, I’ll check those guys out; I guess because I’m still a novice and a poor one at that, that I’m always looking the cheap/free solution, but I guess or rather I know that sometimes it just can’t be avoided and I have to stump up the cash.
Thanks for the info.

May 18, 2010 at 7:54 pm in reply to: Can I convert P2 to QuickTime with no loss and all audio?Doh! Just understood what you meant there Shane, Log & Transfer :-). But sorry to ask, once I’ve logged and transferred into FCP do I just export as a self contained QT?

May 18, 2010 at 7:44 pm in reply to: Can I convert P2 to QuickTime with no loss and all audio? Thanks guys, just to ask one more and answer your additional questions:
Shane: As long as you have all 4 tracks chosen in the L&T interface, all will come over.
Sorry I’m being a bit dozy here, I can’t work out what the L&T interface is?
To answer both of you, I just signed up to the mobileme idisk, as I have someone in NYC that I have to get these files over to, I was prepared to wait the 2 or so days it was going to take to upload them to my public folder, so that he could access them.
However after leaving them for some hours quietly uploading I got some kind of MXF video error and it crashed and all that had uploaded was an empty audio folder.
Soooo I figured if I convert them to .movs which will be 2gb or less, I can then yousendit to him, laborious but better than posting I think, as then I have to go out and buy a mini drive and secure post etc. etc.
Really appreciate your help on this one guys.
