Try setting the audio to 32khz same as when you shot it.

This all looks fine, I’m assuming you’re in the U.S hence you’re using NTSC?

Here’s a little image sizing table for you

Video Format Single layer stationary Multi layer stationary
DVNTSC 16:9 853 x 480 x 72 720 x 480 x 72
SDNTSC 16:9 853 x 547 x 72 720 x 486 x 72

For image moves multiply the first two numbers by 2.5

Save the images as Tiffs or PNGS

Yup, I’d put a fairly sizeable wager that that’s where you’ve gone wrong, try again without converting to 1600 hz and just leaving as is, when you export, leave the audio as current, or you might have to adjust to 32k but try leaving the audio alone first and see what happens.

yes converting to .movs are definitely the way to go

As far as your stills are concerned are you saving them in RGB?

and have you saved at the right resolution for your timeline?

It sounds like maybe you are saving your clips at a standard res then putting them onto an HD timeline

It is fast enough, but eventually you’ll probably regret not going for the esata hook up as FW2 is 800mb/s and esata is 3gb/s it is a noticeable difference even if you’re just going to be using the macbook in the field for dumping footage.

Bite the bullet and go for the 17.5

With compressor or in fact quicktime conversion you can export in whatever size you want, just go to video settings.

Try exporting straight to compressor and of course you can preview it while doing that also check your audio settings, 48k is usually the best but 44 might be needed, it depends on what rate the camera took the original footage.

Remember with exporting you want to go through as few compressions as possible.

Mp4 is a compressed format, so when you edit and compress it’s not going to be the greatest quality but should still be OK for the web, when you’ve finished editing go to File menu > export > using compressor.

Once you’re in compressor you’ll have to experiment with what gives you a good outcome.

As for stills using photoshop with the image saved as an RGB .psd image will give you the best quality
