Posted by Manuel Valencia on July 7, 2010 at 4:45 am

I recorded a lot of clips in 640×480 but the sequence is 720p (i think) and it resized my clips when i added it to the playlist to fit the height of the sequence.

Now i want to export and i have to resolve the issue of the black bars in the side due different aspect ratio .

I have 2 options. 1.Resize all the clips to make it fit to de width and export it in HD 2. Resize the sequence (or make a new one + copy paste all the work) that have the right size to my clips.

I have problems to make both options become true.

With option 1 i get a final video that is bigger than the clips (so, i lose quality) and i lose the video data in the top and the bottom in the process because the difference of aspect ratio.

With option 2 i have the problem i dont know how to resize a sequence or make a new sequence or project that has the right size: 640×480

¿How can i control the size of the project or the sequences?

go to the sequence menu and then to settings and you’ll be able to resize there.

I am having the same problem in Final Cut Express 4.

I know the concept of “scale and crop” but when I am scaling and cropping, I am still left with black bars on each side of the video. It seems that I am able to crop/scale the white background and the video but not the canvas. Here is a screenshot of what I am working with…

Even after I export the video, I am still left with “unused space.”

I want the white background to fill the total space yet when I resize the video/white background, I am left with black excess.

Hi folks, I too am stuck with this, sorry but the first persons suggestion was no good. You cannot specify size other than PAL, NTSC, or 1080’s The smallest you can access this way is 720 px wide. I need to work with a clip smaller, and I have the dreaded black frame syndrome.

How can we set the size of the sequence viewport/window manually? Is this just not an option in final cut express?
    Thanks
