I think you should be using the ProRes and not 10 bit uncompressed. I’m not an expert though, but I think that could be the source of your problems.

Sorry to state the obvious, but have you tried Red’s website?

This is why I refer to my Mac as Schroedinger’s Mac, because sometimes when you turn it on it works properly and sometimes not. The guy who sold me the esata card said he’d sold loads all without complaint so rather than depress myself further I felt it best to turn my back on esata; shame.

When I bought my Mac, I put in an esata bus card so I could use my esata drive. After many months and many days being driven close to tears and madness, I gave up.

No one could explain why it didn’t work (using the esata triggered a kernel failure and made my machine crash) the machine went back to the shop 3 times to no avail, I decided to give up before I turned into a bitter, raving-I told you PCs were better-lunatic, I advise you do the same and just stick with FW800 it’s still fast and like you say it works.

    Good luck with it all.

September 25, 2010 at 8:25 am in reply to: 2 sequences same settings, different outcomes

Yeah it’s a mystery guys, I’ve already considered the things you’ve said and I’ve checked, checked and checked again, but this does tally with my experience of Macs (don’t all shout at once!) they just seem to go a bit mad now and again.

I’ve sorted the problem by simply starting a new sequence and starting again, annoying, but it works.

Many thanks for your help guys

    Hi Tom,

The item properties are all DVPal 25 fps, it’s just on one sequence the clips appear fine and on the other letter-boxed.

Just a guess here, but it sounds like encore is using a different time code FCP as you know starts at 01:00:00:00 so if encore uses a zeroed TC it will start your markers at 1 hour. I don’t use encore, but I bet there’s a setting to use the imported TC instead of the native, either that or go back into FCP and start your TC at 00:00:00:00 and try again.

    Hope this helps

  • Was your footage shot on the Sony EX? If so export as a self contained QT and import that into DVDSP

July 8, 2010 at 1:56 pm in reply to: XDCAM EX codec problem

If this is your first time ingesting EX then you need to download the software from Sony’s website https://pro.sony.com/bbsc/ssr/micro-xdcamexsite/resource.downloads. Once you do this there will be a new option under the file menu and you’ll be all set.

Also if you download clip browser (sorry don’t have link) you’ll be able to view them before you ingest to FCP

    Good luck.

Sorry Melvin, can’t help, but try reposting in the compression techniques forum I’m sure someone can help you there, make sure you post your entire workflow from ingesting your footage to the stage where compressor freezes. Put all your settings and what type of footage and hopefully you’ll get a solution.

    Good luck
