  • DANG!!! You’re right! I do recall seeing Mathias (mochaImport + developer) showing such a workflow in one of his recent tutorials.

I think it’s best to distinguish between the two different mochaAE products. There’s mocha AE CC (which ships with AE CC) and mocha AE V3.1 which requires an upgrade from mocha AE CC. More info here – https://www.imagineersystems.com/compare-products

Take note that mocha’s 3D Camera Solver is only available in the upgrades (as far as AE is concerned) to mochaAE V3.1 and mochaPro.

There are a few mocha 3D Camera Solves found in this search –
    https://vimeo.com/search/page:5/sort:relevant/format:thumbnail?q=imagineer+systems

One of the results is this – https://vimeo.com/50599990 – which is a good example of 3D object tracking with mocha’s 3D Camera Solves.

What is important to note is that AE’s Camera Solves does not provide a viable solution for 3D Object Tracking, which is something the mocha does. Having said that, if an object moves rather slowly or subtle relatively to a camera move and its orientation then it is possible for AE to solve an object’s 3D-ness with respect to its position and orientation.

FWIW, AE’s 3D Camera Tracker is the go-to choice for 3D Camera Tracking as it does an extremely good job on most tracking tasks.

It’s really up to you to work on or practice with as types of footage as your time and interest can spare.

You can only Motion Sketch a 2D layer. So … start off by Motion Sketching a 2D Null Object. Then either (1) Parent a Light to the 2D Null Object (2) Create an Expression on the Light to link its position to the Null Object’s Position (3) Copy the Null Object’s Position keyframes to the Light’s Position property.

This is an exceptionally strange occurrence. I suggest you post screen grabs of the Timeline and Composition Panels.

  • Unfortunately you can only send information one way, between mocha and AE. Looks like you will have to look at touching up the masks in AE.

  • I would start off with a Camera Tracker as it will track multiple areas/objects at once.

It’s still manual, though, invoking track points and attaching a graphic to a point.

July 3, 2013 at 6:03 pm in reply to: Pasting Mocha Masks in AE – Error

The mochaShape effect creates mattes. The down side is that you can’t tweak the edges like you can with a mask.

To paste mocha spline date, you copy/export from mocha and simply CTRL+V onto a selected white solid (for use as a matte) or directly onto the backing plate.

  • [Kit Webster] “Is there a better way, like a key command that disregards the previous line, and retains the pen tool so I can reanimate the same part of the shape?”

    Nope!

What you should do is to create a point either ahead or behind the existing point. Once you’ve drawn all the necessary points, you can then move the ‘second’ point into its desired position.
