    You can convert multiple AE files to Shape Layers in AE CC (V12) BUT you can’t convert a sequence. Import the AE files as individual files and then convert to Shapes.

    No. Open Paths are converted but AE adds a Fill to open paths. Disable Fills for such paths after the conversion – open paths should be stroked, not filled.

    You must have switched on the AI layer’s Continuously Rasterize switch. 3D Layers with CR do not react to Lights and its effect – shadows etc. They also break 3D interactions, intersections and Light effects.

    So, double check to ensure that you really need to CR the AE file. If you do, then precomp the AE file and CR and scale up in the precomp. In the ‘final comp’, DO NOT CR/CT this nested comp.

    This should be doable in only a few minutes.

    Set your tracker as such NEFORE tracking –
    1) Tracker Panel – Options section
    a) Switch on Adapt Feature on Every Frame
    b) “If Confidence is Below …%” set this to 90
    c) Set (b) above to “Stop Tracking”

    2) In the Timeline, twirl Motion Tracker Properties until you see Search Size, set this to [250,250] or even [300,300]. YOu can of course adjust the size of the Search Region in the Layer Panel but in the Timeline, you can put in precise numbers which then gives you an idea of how much to adjust this prop should the tracking target move too much from frame to frame.

    3) Begin tracking. Keep an eye to make sure that the tracker is doing its job well. Should tracking stop [due to (1c) above] or if you notice that the tracker is inaccurate, then manually move the Search and Feature Regions and Attach Point to their correct location. Then track one frame at a time for a couple of frames. If all goes well, then continue tracking at ‘normal speed’.

    There are highly complex paths at play here – it’s difficult to see what’s the issue. Having said that, if you’ve done your export correctly and the import into AE went well then the issue has to do with the Fill Rule for Shape Layers – more info here.

    Alternatively, why not copy-paste your paths from AI directly into a Shape Layer in AE?

    Your workflow has more twists and turns than a bag of curly fries! 😉
    You have multiple issues as a result of having to track a region(s) with occasional occlusion(s).

    Forget about Adjustment Layers for this task. Unless you are using a script that tracks mask, you should only apply one mask onto one adjustment layer – NO to multiple masks on a single Adjustment Layer.

    If your tracking region gets occluded, by a foreground object, then switch to Offset Tracking. You initiate Offset Tracking in AE by ALT+dragging the Search and Feature regions onto an area that is identical, relative to the inherent movement of the original tracking region and the camera’s movement.

    When ALT+dragging the Search and Feature regions, ensure that you DO NOT move the Attach Point from the original tracking region.

    Lastly, you should be looking at using mochaAE/mocha Pro. mocha has the advantage of tracking multiple regions at one go. You can also first track a Holdout Matte, the foreground object (character) that occludes your multiple tracking regions, and then use this Holdout Matte (track it only once), multiple times for each of your actual/desired tracking regions.

    Let us know if you have more Qs, but please do as much work on your end first as it seems that there is a lot of RTFM that is required on your part.
