Files->Collect Files is what you want. But before you get there, you may want to first clean up your project.

For that there are Files>Remove Unused Footage. Then there is Files->Consolidate All Footage. This one removes redundant footage items and relinks those items that have been removed.

The use Files->Reduce Project. For this, select comps that you want to retain before selecting this option.

Your final procedure is to select Files->Collect Files. All the routines are undoable.

Someone should wrte a script to run through the process with a SaveAs (for backup purposes) as the first routine.

3D Stroke would be the plugin you’re looking at. And yes this is doable within AE. I assume that 2 weeks would be a comfortable time-frame for a sole AE soul to pull it off.

August 23, 2007 at 10:22 pm in reply to: Kung-Fu Script Request

Thanks. Paul’s script did most of what was required. Just a wee bit of a manual tuck-in was required. Essentially, I’m a very productively lazy person. 😉

BTW, the idea for the Script came about as I was using 3D Stroke to create a “fly around a subject/object” effect. For such an effect, you’ll need two copies of the same layer. Same everythins except for the Z-clip’s Front and Back values.

Paul’s Script lacked the option to copy Mask(s) as well as Effects but that’s easy enough. Then there was the unhinging of the Expressions for the Z clip-values and re-hinging to a different set of properties.

All in all, it’s a great-time saver. Just what Kung-Fu Scripting is all about!

BWT, what were your thoughts with applying such a Script?

  • Good Stuff! You should get an award for that. The only downside is that Suzy isn’t included as part of the package.

August 23, 2007 at 4:51 pm in reply to: Importing into AE from Premiere

Titles and transitions are not translated in their full glory when going from PPro to AE. I’m surprised that keying isn’t.

The thing to note about working between these two apps is to re-appreciate your workflow. use PPro as an editing tool. Use AE as a Titling and Compositing Tool. When intending to go from PPro to AE, it is best to observe old-school, off-line and on-line paradigms.

In other words, perform your edits in PPro and fine-tune your edit points there. Put any titles you want but only as placeholders. Once in AE either use AE’s Text Tool (strange that it’s not called the Title Tool) or disregard the placeholder until you get back into PPro.

When you’re done in AE, either render out your movie with only those layers that you need switched on. Or use CS3’s Dynamic Link import feature to import the AE composition.

Effects>Render>Scribble should do just fine. Coupled with Roughen Edges and CC Vector Blur you should get pretty close.

Sounds just like how mine works. To see the cursor, you’ll need to click within the text string. Use the arrow keys to navigate the cursor.

No true Shortcut but if you’re on a PC, you could do an ALT+C and then followed with an R. It’s as good as it gets to a shortcut.

[duffbeer911] “How are you getting the quotes from my post in? I can’t find any buttons to insert quotes”

Just ue your cursor to select the text and with the text still selected, press the letter “Q”. This will automagically copy and then paste what you have selected into the Reply text area.

BTW, what’s the story like with AE training in Australia? I’ve been thinking of linking up with a training provider to offer my AE courses on a quarterly basis. Any ideas on who to get in touch with?
