You will also get nice shadows with the Ray-traced Renderer. The issue it may introduce is increased render times.

Don’t move stuff! It’s always better to Collect Files if you need to move assets.

I suggest that you double and even triple check the issue and if it is still unresolved then please file a Bug Report here https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform so that such app issues get fixed

  • As Todd’s suggested, it’s very likely a plugin issue. What are the effects you’ve applied to the problem layers?

  • Did you inadvertently lock the layer with keyframes?

I’m glad you’ve got your issue sorted out. AND that does look like an involved comp – looks good too!

    Cheers!

I see two nested comps in your screencap – “front hand” and “head primary”. Assuming that “head primary” contains the layers that make up the jaw area, you have to go into the precomp and set the Blending Mode there. Also, assuming that the jaw animation is done in the master/parent comp, you have to enable Continuously Rasterize for the “head primary” nested comp – this ensures that the Blending Mode in the precomp is carried over.

Hopefully, the continuously rasterize switch doesn’t introduce issues. If it does, then see if you can bring everything from the precomp into the master/parent comp – in other words, do everything in the master/parent comp.

Set the Blending Mode to Alpha Add for the layers that make up the Jaw.

  • Howzabout this – duplicate the keyed layer and scale it up. Place it behind the original. Adjust the duplicate’s opacity and Blending Mode and apply a distortion effect. Oh, you may want to set the duplicate’s Anchor Point to the center of the character prior to scaling – some motion tracking may be required.

I’ve noticed that the letters animate and that the colors are not clean and move quite a bit. There’s also a fair bit of perspective change in the letters which may have been helped by switching on mocha’s perspective search parameter.

Due to the letters and colors animating, I don’t see how mocha will be able to do a good job here. I suggest that you look into using AE’s Motion Tracker.

When you say the sides of the cubes do you mean only the sides with the letters or do you include the sides without letters?

To track the sides with letters, I would start by tracking with Shear or Transforms (ie no shear and no perspective) in mocha’s search parameters section. Increase minimum % of pixels used to 90. Draw your tracking splines to enclose the letters.

If you are still having issues, then describe more clearly when and where the issue occurs. You should also include a screencap of your search parameters, your tracking spline and your planar surface.
