This is an age-old problem with the Advanced/Classic 3D Renderer which has had issues with drawing shadows. ‘Solutions’ include using the ray-trace renderer, switching off shadow-casting and re-positiong/re-orienting lights.

Dan Ebberts, the owner of MotionScript.com, helps out a lot at the COW’s AE Expressions Forum. Further, the script works when I tried it. There could be something in your keyframes that’s causing the issue. I suggest that you include information on the property you’re animating and the version of AE you’re using.

The only way this is possible is to have each character on its own layer; coupled with Sample Image to discern each character’s width in order to ensure proper kerning. Your best bet is to create a slider to allow a user to move the text’s xPosition into place.

In AE, when youpick a preset, the pixel aspect ratio comes along for the ride. AE’s settings are accurate. The settings you provided shows a discrepancy – 720×486 is NTSC D1 while 720×480 is NTSC DV. Just select the NTSC D1 preset and you should be good to go.

The NTSC D1 preset should be what you’re looking for.

It should be noted that a single use of TypeGEMsRT should allow the user to recoup costs, plus make a decent profit. As long as the user charges a premium for 3D text animations, TypeGEMsRT provides a viable and flexible option. Then, the whole idea of TypeGEMs is to make animating type in AE an incredibly easy and rewarding experience. If you’ve ever had to work with the Type Tool with a sit-in client who wants to try different animation options, you know you’re in for a rough ride.

Hi Andrew, I see what you mean. CTRL+ALT+HOME centers the Anchor Point in the Comp Panel. I think this keystroke is required, in addition to the earlier Expression, once the text string is applied to the Text Layer.
For an automated solution, you’ll likely get a better reply from the COW’s AE Expressions Forum.

I believe that using the following Expression in the Position prop of a Text Layer should do the trick –
[width/2,height/2]
This of course requires that Text Layer’s paragraphing is set to center.
