I have my D5100 set up for continuous focus.
I only push the AF-On (converted AE-L/AF-L) button before I start the video and when changing scenes.
More often I will move the single focus spot. Especially when my subject move to the side of something I want to include.

I’ve had both, and much prefer the D5100 for Video.
If you set it up right, you can manual focus.
But why bother when the AF is so much better than Canon.

Why not?

If your edited video file is too large, I find it is very difficult to use Vegas Pro to produce a DVD. Typically, I have to reduce the quality too much and don’t want to burn a Blue Ray disc.

My most recent project involved combining 9GB of MOV files.

This why I usually use Cyberlink Power Director. It has a “make it fit” setting that results in a better finished DVD.

The consumer versions of Vegas may have that capability.

The version of AVAST I am using is the latest.
It never had a root scan option before.

So far, it’s been over a month and the 4 SamSung Raid 5 works a charm.
I am using a Phenom 4x on a AS Rock mobo and running Win7.

Last week my network of 4 computers got infected with Win32: Netsky-P (worm).
Fortunately, I thing I got rid of it with a root scan by AVAST (free version). Noton’s Semantic Suite let it right by and could not ID it.

Surprisingly, it got everywhere except my RAID drives.

My SAN Digital setup cannot be heard over the computer (internal noise) that sits next to it or the hard drive noise in the 4x IDE external above it.
I am running 4 Samsung 2TB SATA drives for a net 5.45TB (Raid 5) protected Storage Space.

I had the need to push the AF-ON button all the time when I first got my D7000.

I cannot really tell you what I did but I can now shoot a Video in either that or my D5100 in autofocus and even zoom while doing it without using the AF-ON (or shutter half-down).

I think it is just something you have to learn by using the camera.

I also weened myself from needing the MonoPod or TriPod for shooting stills on the D7000 but need them again for the D5100. I think it is because the body + 28-300 lens is much lighter than the D700 with an 80-400.

How about a 4 SATA up to 2TB ea in an external USB3 box with it’s own raid card?
It can be connected to your computer by USB 1-3 or SATA
This is my RAID 5 solution and it works extremely well for me.

I read last month that there is third part software that does this for you.
It works as an add-on to Vegas Pro.
I downloaded the trial but did not need it until this last week when my on camera mic was off and my separate Tascam recording was working.

Now if I can only find it now that I need it to to sync the Video and Sound recordings!
