  • How can I synch two independent audio tracks?

Posted by Norman Willis on May 5, 2011 at 3:50 am

I have two independent audio files from a Zoom H4N (a headset mic and an audience mic). They are not linked to video files.

Is it possible to synch these two tracks up inside of Vegas, so that when I cut a segment from the first track it automatically makes the same subtraction from the second track?

    Thanks.

I read last month that there is third part software that does this for you.
It works as an add-on to Vegas Pro.
I downloaded the trial but did not need it until this last week when my on camera mic was off and my separate Tascam recording was working.

Now if I can only find it now that I need it to to sync the Video and Sound recordings!

    Norman,

I end up doing this all the time by just plopping the two tracks under each other and watching the wave form. Look at the peaks and starts and stops. Old school I know, but costs nothing but time. Is there any distinguishing sound that happened on the recording that you can use as a sync point? That’s why they used to use clap boards (and still do) for that nice “Clack” to line the audio up. As for third party plug-ins, I have heard wonders about “Plural Eyes” https://www.singularsoftware.com/pluraleyes.html#vegas Check it out. It’s about $150 I think.

Norman, after you get the two tracks synced up, make sure to click in a blank space below the tracks.
That way, everything under the cursor gets split.

Looks like I missed the second part of the question. I will try to be a better read next time.

I second Mike. That is how I lob sections out. I also usually shut off auto ripple just in case when you click to the bottom you don’t quite let go of one track.

Did you group them? The simplest thing to do is to select the video event and all of the associated audio events and press the ‘G‘ key to group them. Then every splice you make in one will be made in the others.

Another way to do this is to place the video and audio in a new project and sync them there. Then drop that project into your main project as a nested project and it will behave just like a single piece of media.
