The GH must be restarting the Video after each 4 GB or else using exFAT.
Either way they prove it can be done.

However, does you Panasonic do this while recording 1080P 60 (Progressive 59.94, not interlaced) ?

And that is my number one firmware request for the Nikon D5300.

I find it easy to change the Ninja Monitor, go to Menu/Display options.

The D800 has been the best HDSLR I’ve seen or used untill I got my new D5300.
It lacks the buttons and easy controls but gives me better Videos.
The 1080P 60 setting allows for sharp, clean, and smooth Movies taken at ISO 12800 in poor light.
The high speed also allows for HandHeld Video.
I just took some in the Monterey Bay Aquarium and most came out great even though I experimented with the settings the whole time.

For the price of a 5D MKIII you could get a D5300, Nikkor lens, Odyssey7 with propietary SSD and everything else you need for a great minimal setup.
Or you could get the Ninja II, fast 1TB HardDrive, and an external Monitor.
However, Neither the Atomos nor the BM HyperDeck products will record 1080P 60 at this time.

Try to get “Hand On” a Nikon D5300
I have had one almost two weeks and the 1080P 60 Video is awsum.
And you can shoot it at ISO 12800 with practically no artifacts.
Great color, and really smooth.

You may still want a recorder though
because every DSLR I know of is limited to a 4GB file which is only 10 minutes.
However, the D5300 does not over heat if you just keep hiting the record button.
I’ve tested it for well over one hour at a time so far.

I already have an Odyssey 7 on pre-order. It will record DNxHD 90 at 60 fps.

It depends on the camera you have or are getting,
what you want to do with it,
and how much you are willing to spend.

I have both the Ninja II and the BM Shuttle II, but am planing on selling them to get an Odyssey 7.

Black Magic offers the Shuttle II and higher end recorders.
The shuttle will record from SDI or HDMI to Uncompressed, Pro Res 220 and DNxHD 220
The HDSLR must out put clean otherwise menues etc will show.
It will only record on Fast SSD cards.
It has an internal battery that is good for 55 minutes.
I extended that to over two hours with an Anker Battery pack.

Atomos makes the Ninja II and also higher end recorders
The Ninja will record HDMI only but offers more compression codecs from 220 all the way down to DNxHD 36.
You can record to SSDs or cheap but fast 2.5″ Hard Drives
It uses one or two Sony compatable batteries.

Convergent Design has not released the Oyssey 7 yet but also has more expensive recording options.
The Odyssey 7 will record from SDI or HDMI 1080 60.
It uses one or two propietary SSD drives
It runs from AC adapter or 10 to 34 VDC battery pack

My new Nikon D5300 also does but only for 10 minutes due to FAT 32 file limitations.
The Video images are absolutely awsum, so I now want to extend my unattended recordings.

You can set the input on the Ninja to 1080i 60
It will take at least a firmware upgrade to go to 1080P 60

That is why I am looking at the ODYYSEY.
It is supposed to have the codec and also a 7 inch High Def touchscreen.

If I set my D5300 HDMI output to Auto,
I can record 1080i with the Ninja II at DNxHD 145

The internal recording is set to 1080P 60 but I only turn on live view
I do not press the camera record button or it will record 1080P to the SD card.
That would limit recording to 10 minutes (due to 4GB limit).

My problem is that Videos shot with 1080i 60 look terrible on my High Definition Computer Monitor.

1080P 60 however, look really, really good!

For one purpose, reviewing our bowling, it makes a huge difference.

Even 1080P 30 recorded to DNxHd or PRoRes 220 and then processed to a BlueRay for HD TV
do not look near as good as the 1080P 60 MOV files from my D5300.

I use two 32GB SanDisk cards. They are both class 10.
Except for upload speed to my computer, I cannot tell the difference between 30MBs and 45MBs.

I have two MonoPods and three TriPods.
I use a SLIK Movie TriPod and Head for my Videos.

For Video, I use a Nikkor AF-S 35mm f/1.8 and an AF-S 28-300 lens.
I like the versatility of the zoom
but the Prime is better in low light and easier to get the best quality results.

One spare battery is enough. I get thousands of stills and/or hours of Video on 1.

If you have your camera in A “Aperture Priority” and set for 5.6 it should not change.
