I was looking up information about unsensitive mikes and they are listed as -60dB, down to 0dB I think. Is there some general rule or guideline I should know about concerning how these would differ. It seems all the mikes I have now are too sensitive and I’m getting way more ambient noise than I want.

un-sensitive microphones. Huh! That’s interesting…
The mikes singers use are totally different from the lavalier mikes.
That’s a pet peeve of mine to see singers that are always sucking on their mikes. I can’t even watch them.
Well, are there unsensitive mikes in the lavalier family and what would they be called. Do they go by some sort of classification?

March 18, 2013 at 9:18 pm in reply to: Bad Mic Audio needs to be corrected. Any Advice?I put it in iZotope. Probably could do better if I took more time with it. And I’m not all that good with the program.
I mainly used the denoise funtion but I also went in with the paint brush to eliminate all those plosives.Roger Bansemer

New Blue V6 – Picture Grid does a pretty good job.

We often shoot where we get unwanted car noise, etc over our voice.
I wonder how a small parabolic mike would work for us in that situation? Never thought of it before. Right now we use a cardiod mike which works pretty good for narrow directional recording but it’s certainly not perfect.
I’m always amazed at newscasters that do reports in hurricanes and by busy street corners where hardly any ambient noise can be heard.Roger Bansemer

Hi Colin,
Thanks for the info. I think that will work out fine.Roger Bansemer

That’s very interesting and it sounds like that is exactly what has happened. On three of the nine projects I’ve completed recently the audio in one of the parts has changed. I can’t begin to render at a point before the audio begins (because the parts run one right after the other) so I’ll just render the entire project in one piece.
At least I know what’s going on now.
Thanks for the information.
It’s so hard keeping up with all that has to be considered…
