  • Bad Mic Audio needs to be corrected. Any Advice?

I had a problem with my wireless microphone on a job. I have sound forge and am trying to correct the problem. You can hear the problem on the attached file. I need to get rid of the squeak sound in the background of the lefty channel audio. I was recording from the camera microphone on the right channel and the wireless mic on the left channel. Can anyone suggest what steps I should take to correct this in Sound forge and then bring the file back into sony vegas.

I need to get rid of the squeak sound in the background of the left channel audio. I was recording from the camera microphone on the right channel and the wireless mic on the left channel.

The right channel camera mic is not bad, but in theory the left channel wireless mic can be much better if not for the squeaking noise.

I posted a small sample clip of the problem. here is the link.

I used Audacity and ran the wav file through 3 times with the default settings. The result was very clean. Mix in a little right channel for ambiance and not too bad. I’ve attached the “fixed” file. Again, it is so clean as to sound unnatural. It will be necessary to mix your ambient mic to get a more natural sound.

BTW. The right channel is pretty OK the way it is for my taste.

You did get rid of the squeal, but it seems that there is an annoying artifact remaining. Again, maybe not so bad if mixed with the audio from the original camera mic. What audio processing did you use?

Larry, Thsnk you. It sounds great. How did you get rid of the squealing. I do not have audacity. I am sure I can figure it out, or apply the technique to sound forge

I put it in iZotope. Probably could do better if I took more time with it. And I’m not all that good with the program.
I mainly used the denoise funtion but I also went in with the paint brush to eliminate all those plosives.

Audacity is a freebie. I used noise removal effect in Audacity. You can find it and download it. Pretty simple to use.. after you figure out how to use it. (but isn’t everything). There are other similar programs. Pro Tools is probably the best. Several tutorials on YouTube. If the total program Isn’t too long and the file isn’t too large, just upload the whole thing. Be happy to run it through and send it back to you. No guarantees though…
