this is very simple. I don’t think it has a name but it could be shadows over text.. 🙂
the most straight forward approach I can think of is just use a feathered mask on a few black solids and move it on top of the text.

October 8, 2016 at 3:33 pm in reply to: Impossible? Tracking head-mounted GoPro camera and applying movement to 3D obj.If I understand correctly, you want the 3d animation to the left to replicate the movement of the camera that shot the video. if that is what you want, you are better off doing this manually. rig your 3d animation appropriately and keyframe the movement. it is so hectic that even if you had motion control device on the actual camera that is translating data directly to a software, you would probably want to to smooth out the abrupt movements or this will be very difficult to watch. +1 on manual key-framing. does not look that bad. you will be done key-framing this 15 second piece in an hour or so.

October 8, 2016 at 2:24 pm in reply to: Can you ease a text-generating expression…with an expression?Sure, Buddy. See that you read all about live text templates Ae/Pr workflow. I have not used it but as I remember, Premiere has the ability through dynamic linking to change a live text that sits and animates in Ae. So if you have easing keyframes say for typewriter preset from 0 to 100% it seems this should translate to premiere no expressions needed. But if you know all about it and still need more control through expressions do try the expressions forum.
BTW live text integration is going to get better in the upcoming release, watch the promo at Adobe’s website. Goodluck.

wanted to share, if you haven’t found it already. but to edit posts you have to hit reply on your own post… take this for example:
- I wrote this post. now I hit reply
- now I will see the thread as a chain of posts. and I can see edit to edit my message:
- when I hit it I will see a window like this:
- correct my foolish suggestions and typos and hit update and I will see this:

this is unfortunately how it still works when you convert to bezier path.
from the link: https://blogs.adobe.com/creativecloud/after-effects-cc-12-2-december-2013-update/
IMPORTANT: When you use the Convert To Bezier Path command to convert a parametric shape path to a Bezier shape path, the Bezier path that is created does not animate well (i.e., interpolation between paths behaves strangely and unpredictably). This is related to path direction and how transformations are stored. For now, you should not use these converted paths for animated paths (interpolation between paths); but, if you do want to try, you may be able to work around the issues by reversing the path before conversion.
you need to set the first vertex after you convert to bezier path and the animation will be o.k.

[Ocean Byrne] “Is there a way to tell Outer Glow to just be Outer?
“Nope. it makes sense because your layer is not fully opaque. almost any effect or style you put on it will be seen under the transparency.
I would duplicate a unique copy of that precomp, set the layers inside to be fully opaque, then use a layer style with blending fill to 0% so I will have just the layer style. one layer for the layer style precomp, another for the precomp. parent the layer style precomp to the precomp.
