the way to make Write-on change the brush size through time is to change time properties toggle to “size”

Nested composition will not respect the inside layers blend modes unless you turn on the collapse switch for the precomp.

curving an element in a true 3d space was never easy in Ae. I suggest this: make you 2d animation as usual anyway you see fit and at the end turn the arrow and the other layer 3d and just rotate the x axis of the arrow just a bit.

  • How do I go about making keyframes for only one specific .wav in a comp?
disable the audio switch for the layers you don’t want to get included

Convert Audio To Keyframes Analyzes amplitude within the composition work area and creates keyframes to represent the audio. interestingly, it is not layer related, but will represent all the audio sources in your composition. you can have no layer selected and choose Animation->Keyframe assistant->convert audio to keyframes and it will include all active audio layers. so if you don’t want a layer to get included, simply switch it’s audio switch off.

January 13, 2017 at 6:15 pm in reply to: Unwanted movement between bezier keyframes

I would not mess with the handles. this is one of Ae’s oddities that is refereed to as “The Boomerang Effect”.

    watch this:
    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rLdBTzkMa7k

to fix it: you can highlight both keyframes where this movement occurs between and right click on one of them->keyframe interpolation (or Ctrl+Alt+K) and choose under spatial interpolation->linear.

to avoid it: make sure you set your preferences to default spatial interpolation to linear and avoid 95% of the chances this will happen again:

have you tried Dave’s suggestion – Mesh warp? it’s one of the simplest of the distort effect.

    how is the video moving?

January 8, 2017 at 12:49 am in reply to: AE displays wrong frame at cut points

very strange. what happens one frame after? does it then show the next layer?

you should try to isolate the problem as much as you can. only one cut, 2 layers with speed changes/without – see where it breaks. is the pixel motion related? does this happen on 2015.3? move layer 23 (0438) above layer 22 (0437) ? is it o.k now? btw it is better to work staircase up and not down in a compositing app so if you want just select all the layers from bottom to top and cut and paste, and it will paste them in reverse order.

these lines are also apparent in the preview screenshot you showed before.

this is the screenshot you showed before

this is a frame from the video:

these look very similar to me. maybe showing another frame in time or different background (this could be that you are having no solid black background in Ae.

how did you composite this 3d object? was it through a plugin? these lines are originated from some sort of effect or plugin.

we need more information about this setup and you should isolate the problem to see exactly what’s causing the differences if you see any.
