have you tried using hue/saturation effect and keyframe cycle the hue wheel? how about creating the two or three looks that you want through separate adjustments and just dissolve between them?

no exactly sure how you got in this situation, but precomposing your shadow catcher might be the wrong way to go. a shadow catcher should work if set to accept shadow only. if you created it through the Camera tracker, it should already be set properly.

make sure you are set to classic 3d in the upper right corner of your composition window (also in the composition settings->3d renderer.
we need more information, send some more screenshots but if you really want to find why you are having a problem, I recommend creating a simple setup from scratch and see step by step where is the failure.

I believe you could replicate this projection, and support Walter’s suggestion of using blend modes.

thank you Simon and I agree. I meant to reply to Op.
always a good idea to show example of what you want to achieve to get a specific solution so Stig, feel free to show us in detail what the issue you want to resolve if the suggestion you got so far don’t get you there.

channel blur could work, but sometimes produces artifacts. another way is to try the refine soft matte effect, that could also produce artifacts. if all else fails, another way to go manually at it is to produce an edge matte. Vfx guru Mark Christiansen demonstrates that here: https://www.lynda.com/After-Effects-tutorials/Prevent-matte-clipping-Find-Edges-Minimax/114913/174524-4.html

no way to change to overlay safe region, but you can place guides instead to help you better see it if you want. you can change the guide color in the preferences. you can also create a safe area of your own using shape layers and save it as a preset and use it as a guide layer so it won’t render.

you can’t convert a bezier shape to a parametric shape so starting from scratch is the normal practice. there are other ways to keep the stroke thickness other that using the rectangle path scale. you can drag the stroke outside of the rectangle group and this way the render order is scale first, then stroke. like this:

Thank Kalle that really works nice… I would also recommend checking this preset from school of motion:
https://www.schoolofmotion.com/tapering-stroke-expressions-part-1/it’s also free but requires registration and it does use shapes and not masks. I find it a bit more limited and slow than Saber for my needs.

thanks Kevin. this makes sense to just adjust the basic octagon shape to be linear, leaving the movement of the arrows to be on a smoother octagon.

all this mess just to get an object to bend along a spline. if this is painful for you to watch, please submit a feature request:

Adjusting the curve means redoing it from step 1. You will find that the motion around tight corners is not that great. I think that’s the best you could do in Ae. I would then explore the spline wrap options in C4D for a better workflow.
