if it’s transform data, you should apply it to a null and not the object. then parent the object to the null. now you can mask the object as you wish.

For Hi-Con matte extraction, I find the extract effect suitable. For
Edges, I use refine soft matte effect. I recommend the keying course by Mark Christiansen on Lynda the shows this technique and more.

Whenever you get strange character behavior, you can reset to the default character preferences by clicking at the top right corner of the panel. The hamburger menu has an option to reset.

You can use keyframes for the parameters: one is at its reset state, the other is at the other state. You can also use an adjustment layer if that suits your workflow. BTW, if its only color correction, you may consider doing this in Premiere rather than after effects. It’s more suited to an editing and minor effects adjustment than AE. Especially when dealing with color correction. You can do it in both apps, but in Premiere you will get a better performance and its color correction tools are more suited for this type of work.

I think what Op is trying to do is offset path keyframes. like the Uberkey in Mocha.

the sad news is that in Ae it’s not possible. you can’t offset path keyframes. even if you select multiple keyframes, only the one your CTI is on top of will change. this is on of Ae’s mask weaknesses. especially for rotoscoping. the classic example is you find out after a while that one of the vertices was not in the right place. you want to select a few keyframes and for the change to affect all of them at the same time.. no dice unfortunately.

if you are painting on a video, then it has to be in sync with the video. simply adding more frames to each brush will make it slower, but it won’t be in sync with the video anymore…

having said that, if you want to add more frames to a stroke, press PP to reveal your brush strokes and simply stretch and reorder them like ordinary layers.

if you need to make each frame last 3 frames you could also use the time stretch feature for the layer and set it to 300% if you want to triple the time it takes for each stroke:

if it’s before you even start drawing, you could set your frames to last a custom number of frames and not just 1 if you set your duration to custom.

you might want to change a tool and use photoshop video timeline for your rotoscoping work. it has onion skin and more advanced features. Ae’s paint tool is very limited. here’s one artist who works this way: https://vimeo.com/ruffmercy
