  • Rotating 3D shape layer on y-axis and maintaining stroke on all sides

    I hope i’m able to describe this problem correctly.

    I’m creating an animation where a bag of popcorn is rotating and expanding at the same time. I have created this bag as a 3D shape layer, and have changed the path so it enlarges as time goes by. I also wanted to rotate the Y axis to simulate the microwave plate slowly turning as the bag is expanding, also manipulating the extrusion depth as the bag gets bigger. This would all be fine and good, but i’m doing this in a flat cartoon style with a stroke on the shape layer, so obviously when the y-axis rotates, the stroke thickens as opposed to being on all sides of the extruded object. is there a way I can achieve this within After Effects, or perhaps a more effective way than what I’m doing now? Thanks!

    try this:
    layer->layer styles->stroke

    If i’m doing it correctly, that doesn’t seem to work. I don’t even see the stroke on the object.

    get the 3d object by itself..precompose or render it out by itself then i would use a drop shadow with 100 opacity and 0 for everything else…duplicate it 6 -10 times then go to the 1st one and increase the softness…there you go

    Not quite sure I understand what you mean here, can you elaborate perhaps? thanks!
