Ok…now we’re getting somewhere. Can you be more specific? Post a project file?

    Original poster here…

When I say “floor”, I mean an infinite plane that fades out in the distance and gives the perception of a solid ground on which objects can stand.

Earlier in the thread, someone pointed out that these don’t exist in nature. Isn’t that why we use After Effects in the first place?

Thanks for all of your help so far,
    Rob

Thanks…that’s the direction I was looking to go. Any recommendations on the settings for rendering the fields?

I think the very best use of your money would be to buy Total Training’s DVD series on After Effects.

As someone new to the program as well, I bought these DVDs, thinking I’d watch them once and then flip ’em on eBay. Six months later, I still have them and keep watching various segments of the DVDs over and over. They’re fantastic, and I continue to use them as a resource to learn this beast of a program. I much prefer them to a class that probably costs more, covers less ground, and doesn’t give you the benefit of repeat viewings.

    Other places to look:
    * The books by Trish and Chris Meyer
    * The training on Lynda.com

    Enjoy!

Also…I’ve asked a similar question in the past and was told to make sure my comp was set to square pixels.

    Hey Cosmo,

Were you ever able to achieve the desired effect on this? I’m trying to do something very similar, and I’d love to see a sample render or project file.

(for the benefit of people that didn’t read the rest of the thread, Cosmo was trying to project an image onto a cloud using displacement maps)

    Regards,
    Rob

  • As for the scribbling, I prefer using Corel Painter rather than AE to achieve this sort of effect. Check out the sample video of my product to see an example (about 50 seconds into it) https://www.oybaby.com/oybaby_in_depth.htm.

To achieve this effect, I started out with a still from my video, and used it as a basis for tracing paper in Painter. I then used the record sequence features of Painter to animate it. Finally, I do a simple dissolve back into the video from which I started. It’s a great effect that could be much better looking with a colorful sky than is evident from my rather rudimentary example.

    Enjoy!
