3d assistants
Posted by Roger Burton on October 6, 2005 at 7:47 amHi all…I’ve contacted D Anarchy and I guess they’ll get back to me but….I’m making the simplest box (I say simple…it’s not a cube) a rectangular thing with only 5 sides (ie no top) and I’m sure of ticked all the correct boxes but the corners overlap a little…any thoughts please ?…Roger

October 6, 2005 at 8:24 amThat’s not the assistants, it’s AE’s filtering/ antialiasing along with poor z-sorting. Can’t avoid that. Try to apply a rectangular mask to each layer and then use mask expansion to minimize the effect to some degree.

It might help.

October 6, 2005 at 8:14 pmYes, check the square pixel thing for sure. Usually the problem is that there is a small space between the the layers where they meet, which can be solved by enlarging each layer by .5% or something like that. If your layers are overlapping then perhaps try shrinking them by .5%.

October 7, 2005 at 9:43 pmThanks for all your help and I’ll try and get this to work with your advice but I’m quickly realising that the 3d assistants are not quite as user friendly or automatic as I’d hoped….all this tweaking with the sizes and stuff makes me wonder whether it’s worth it…whilst a lot of the tricks it can pull like distributing layers around a sphere are really clever something as simple as a carton are too much of a struggle to get to look good….I must try and find time to learn a true 3d app…max here I come !…have good weekends…Roger
