  • Michael,
Quick question. What if one does not wish to install Motion and/or Color. I have two fixed edit suites for finishing. I am looking for something that can import and playback DVCProHD files in real time (for viewing dailies, taking production notes, etc.), off-line edit (with simple effects and transitions), and still remain small enough to use on an airplane. So, would a 13″ MacBook Pro with its standard GFX card suffice for this type of use?

Yes, I too am having issues. I am forced into buying my third cable in as many years. I bought the 17″ HD Panasonic field monitor and I am constantly forced to use a backup S-Video cable for monitoring, much to my and my client’s disappointment. The cable is very cheap and flimsy. A very weak link in an otherwise strong chain.

Thanks for the heads up. For the record Decklink SP to X-Serve Raid and FCP 5.1.4 on a G5.

We isolated the problem. Apparently FCP will not let you render out a luminance matte from a HD 720p source. Not a good situation at all. All the footage has to be down converted then re-rendered. BIG OOPS on Apple’s part. The “gotcha” was the perfect appearance in the Canvas during the composite. Thankfully we are delivering a SD broadcast copy of the spot, so we were able to down convert. If we were working on a HD delivery…we would have been toast!

I appreciate your effort to help us track down where we are off. I have produced various projects with a Vericam as well as a DVX100, I have a pretty strong track record with 24p. This is a strobe as in there is no jitter frame, but rather a freeze frame where the jitter frame should live. When played back, it looks like an old fashion strobe effect. We are not monitoring through a SDI to DVI interface, but as you suggested first witnessed the anomaly in our viewer window in FCP. Thinking that was not the best way to monitor, we down converted the sequence for our final use which is SD Broadcast dubbed to Beta SP for station dubs. The same strobe effect was present in the SD sequence.

We recorded at 720/24p same setting as our Vericam shoots. We have tried several sequence settings including 720/60. The video looked like, well, video, smooth, but not a 24p sequence. We are monitoring on an Apple HD display. To try to eliminate the Apple display we have down converted to 601 SD and monitored on a SONY SD SDI CRT, and witnessed the same strobing effect. Would shooting in 720/24pn make a difference?

We purchased a Pelican Case. Almost indestructible, and watertight (if that is an issue). The foam can be customized as you see fit and it holds tons.

My question is this…has anyone found a porta brace or similar case for the P2 Store? It is difficult to carry into the field as it is. A protected carrying case with a shoulder strap would be very helpful.

First of all, I have purchased and received all that I mentioned (HVX-200, two 8Gb cards and the P2 store). I love what I have seen so far, accept of course for the MAC workflow issues which are deplorable. I am just concerned that I’m going to have egg on my face if the P2 store is rendered obsolete in less than 2 months. This package was alarge purchase for our company, and it was my decision to pull the trigger. Its just that I have been burned before buying this close to NAB (though I ordered my package months ago), so I am hopeful that as someone who invested early in your product, I will be pleasantly surprised by what I find at NAB.

Jan, I hope there are no unpleasant “surprises” for those of us who have already bought this camera, paid $1400 a piece for two 8Gb cards and invested in a P2 Store.
