Hmmm…I have never had any problems with this current RAID set up. I just hooked everything up, created the RAID via Apple’s Disc Utility and it was up and running great.

I just tested the RAID Block size on 32k vs 256K and ran some performance tests with Xbench (one of the programs that Bear Feats uses to test RAID arrays) and I found that the RAID block at 32k ran faster than the 256K by a good deal. Xbench tests uncached read write and other random tests with information in blocks of 4k and 256k and at 32k Xbench showed that the RAID array was reading at over 80mbs faster. Don’t know if this test directly relates to the size of files used in Final Cut, but I think i might keep it at 32k for a while.

Ya but if you are spending the bucks to rent an HDCAM deck, you might as well rent a Varicam. The camera has some cool features, but definatly not practicle in most situations

Uncompressed 10-Bit 4:2:2 is through HD-SDI BNC connector. So you will have to plug it into something that can handle the a data rate of up to 1.42Gbps, which is no small task.

I m still saving my money for the HVX200.

    John,

I agree with you, it would be nice if control surface manufactures could write their own drives for final cut.

I use my 1082 as a control surface and monitor. I just cut a short documentary on a Scratch DJ so the control surface came in real handy with all the music i had to cut. I don’t have a capture card so i dont have to deal with the same issues as you do with your decklink. I have never had any syncing issues with my set up, but i would probably do what you did if I got had a cap card.

Actually with the panning problem I was rethinking my decision to not get an FW-1884. I really wanted to get that one originally but once i saw the specs on how big the thing was, I changed my mind. It would have taken up way too much space on my desk. Maybe one of these days I’ll look into upgrading.

    Ya exact same for me.

Talked to tascam tech support and they basically said that I need to talk to apple, cuz they feel it is a software problem. I am sure if i talk to apple, they will say to talk to Tascam. The real problem in my opinion is that these two entities are connected via the Macke Emulation protocol and how it communicates with FCP and the tascam control surface.

Oh well i guess its one of those problems without a solution……i feel like Victor Navorski in the Terminal

Is it unlikely that the HVX200 would go past 60 fps? From past post it seems that is what is speculated. I was hopeing the camera would be able to do super slow motion like the 120 range.

I have been leaning toward the burly as well. I like the design and size of the SeriTek the only think i am not sure about is, is the SeriTek use eSATA cables? I want to use the Sonnet 4+4 card instead of the Seritek card and am not sure of the Seritek enclosure would work well with the Sonnet Card. anyone know?

  • SATA II…yes I have read about this. I know that the Maxtor Diamond Max 10s with 16mb cache are SATA II, does anyone know of other models? Do you need a special SATA Controler for these HDs or any PCI-X card will do?

Ok after a quick call to Tech Support i found out that in FCP i need to have the Contol surface input and output set up to Control Port instead of Port 1.

    Chris,

I was curious how the Behringer control surface is working out for you. I am interested in getting a control surface for myself and wanted to know how yours has been working out for you and if there have been any limitations that you have noticed on the behringer? thanks
