  • Tascam FW-1082 Paning Problem

I was curious if anyone out there else is having this same problem. It seems that I cannot pan on my FW-1082 control surface, more specifically the “sel” button you use to select which track to pan does not light up or function in Computer mode. Solo and Mute buttons right under do fucntion thought as do the trasport buttons and everything else. The Sel button along with Pan works fine in monitor mix mode, but no under Computer.

I have been on and off the phone with Tascam’s tech support and they seem kinda stumped. They say it should work…but well it doesn’t

Any advice would be greatly of help.

Just did a quick test on my 1082. The only pan that works is channel 1. I don’t do much panning so I didn’t notice this before.

    Ya exact same for me.

Talked to tascam tech support and they basically said that I need to talk to apple, cuz they feel it is a software problem. I am sure if i talk to apple, they will say to talk to Tascam. The real problem in my opinion is that these two entities are connected via the Macke Emulation protocol and how it communicates with FCP and the tascam control surface.

Oh well i guess its one of those problems without a solution……i feel like Victor Navorski in the Terminal

It would be nice to see Apple open up their interface code for 3rd partys. There’s a lot of buttons on the 1082 that could be used in FCP.

How are you using the box? I’ve found there are huge delay/timing issues if I use the 1082 as my audio output device. So instead I take the spdif from my Decklink card and feed it into the 1082. Everything stays in sync and I use the 1082 as my control surface. With the disappearance of Flying Cow A/D boxes, the 1082 is a great A/D D/A with a control surface thrown in.

    John,

I agree with you, it would be nice if control surface manufactures could write their own drives for final cut.

I use my 1082 as a control surface and monitor. I just cut a short documentary on a Scratch DJ so the control surface came in real handy with all the music i had to cut. I don’t have a capture card so i dont have to deal with the same issues as you do with your decklink. I have never had any syncing issues with my set up, but i would probably do what you did if I got had a cap card.

Actually with the panning problem I was rethinking my decision to not get an FW-1884. I really wanted to get that one originally but once i saw the specs on how big the thing was, I changed my mind. It would have taken up way too much space on my desk. Maybe one of these days I’ll look into upgrading.
