  • For number 1 – Unfortunately, no. I am not aware of any method to do that.

And number 2 – Yes, you would not want to do that in your situation as you’d want to keep those 2 sources separate.

My best suggestion would be instead of keyframing each fade use one of the “crossfade” transitions in your “Effects” bin. A little less clicking that way. Shift-D will apply your default audio transition to any number of clips in your timeline that you’ve selected by clicking the beginning or end of the clip. You can then adjust the transition to the length you’d like.

    Hopefully that helps…

  • Yes, it is simple, but you need to do it before editing the clip into your timeline/sequence. To link your tracks you need to modify your audio in the bin from 2 separate channels into 1 stereo track.

Just right-click the clip in question in your bin and select “modify” and then “audio channels.” Once there, make sure the “Clip Channel Format” dropdown is set to “stereo” and the “number of audio clips” is set to “1”.

You can modify multiple clips all at once by selecting them in your bin and follow the same procedure above.

The handy keyboard shortcut to jump straight into the dialogue box for this is “Shift-G” on PC and I think it is the same on Mac as well.

Ouch! That is a lot modifying. One thing I forgot to mention is you can modify multiple clips at a time using that method by highlighting/selecting them in your project panel, so that might help a little bit.

Have you tried modifying your audio before placing it in your timeline first? To do this you can select the clip in your project panel. Right click and select “Modify” and then “Audio Channels”(or Shift-G). A dialogue box will open and you’ll be able to uncheck the channels you don’t want leaving just your SFX channel. Then to make a true sub-clip you’d drag or open your clip to the viewer (not the timeline). Select your in and out points in the viewer and push “Ctrl-U”. A box will open so you can name the sub-clip and then hit “enter” and it will be added to your bin. I think this should work.

  • We’ve had weird problems on our Mac setup and MXF’s in the past as well. Source clips would cut off early and not display completely in PP. So a 10 min. clip would only show the first 2 minutes in PP. You’d check it in Finder and it was all there. We’d load it in our PC based edit suite and it would work fine. Maddening! The thing that seemed to cure it for us was to convert the source MXF’s to ProRes before editing and that cleared it up.

    Hi John,

What kind of file do you have to deliver? What software do you use to edit your video? Both Premiere Pro and Apple Compressor do embedded captioning. That said, they each have their caveats. Premiere Pro only can embed captions into a .MXF Op1a file and Apple Compressor can do MPEG-2. To use Premiere Pro you would need to import your .scc file and place it on the timeline of your show and then export the file. One thing you need to know is that as of a month ago this workflow was not working for me in the current version of Premiere Pro, but it was on the previous version. (Adobe somehow broke this on the current version) Not sure if it’s been fixed, but I have since moved on to using Apple Compressor. In Apple Compressor you import your show and your .scc file and then render the file out with the captioning embedded as an MPEG-2 file. If you don’t have any editing software and have an Apple computer it’s probably the least expensive route to as Apple Compressor is only $49.99 USD on the App Store. To use Premiere Pro you’ll have to have a Creative Cloud subscription which is a monthly cost depending on what plan you sign up for. As far as turnaround it takes us about the same time as the length of the show to render on our i7 iMac with 32GB of RAM and a 4GB video card. So a 30 min show usually finishes in 30 min or so.

    Hopefully this helps a little.

  • You should check out the new Productions workflow that allows you to break your overall project into smaller projects so you don’t have to load the whole “production” at once. It takes a bit to wrap your head around the new organization method, but it makes working with large projects like yours much more manageable.

Here’s Adobe’s overview on how to use it:

You are correct, if the captions imported properly they should show up in the CC tracks above your video tracks on the timeline in the latest version of PP automatically. You could also load them into your source viewer and turn on the CC display and see if they show up there.

March 16, 2021 at 1:50 pm in reply to: HELP! I can’t find my files!

When you spotlight search where does it say the files are? If you accidentally placed them in trash PP probably wouldn’t be able to see/access them there. If you know the name of the folder they are in and you can find it with spotlight you should be able to move it like Jerry said back to your desktop and your files should link back up automatically.

If that doesn’t work, when you first launch your project and the Link Media dialog box comes up, will it let you manually navigate to where your files are by clicking the drive they’re on and any subsequent folders they’re in till you find the actual file PP is looking for? (Not copy and paste) Usually if they are all living in the same folder and you find one, the rest will re-link automatically.

Unfortunately, I don’t have any answers, but I can commiserate as I have had the same problem with YouTube. Since updating to PP2021, I get 2 copies uploaded to YouTube every time I export and publish directly to YT. If I do my exporting through Media Encoder everything works as normal… just one copy.
